Position Overview:

Theโ€ฏDevOps Engineerโ€ฏis part of the Cognitive team supporting the VA CCN contract for TriWest Healthcare Alliance. This roleโ€ฏis responsible forโ€ฏensuring the reliability, stability, performance, and continuous improvement of enterprise applications supporting critical business operations.โ€ฏ

This individual will serve as the technical lead for application operations, production support, database maintenance, release management, and deployment activities. The role requires a strong operational mindset, the ability to proactivelyโ€ฏidentifyโ€ฏand resolve issues, and the technicalโ€ฏexpertiseโ€ฏto support application growth as transaction and claims volumes increase.โ€ฏ

The ideal candidateโ€ฏpossessesโ€ฏa blend of operations, DevOps, database administration, deployment management, and software development experience, with working knowledge of JavaScript and modern development practices.โ€ฏ

This is a remote position; however, Cognitive Medical Systems hires only in the following designated U.S. states based on contract and business requirements: VA, DC, MD, TN, FL, AZ, CO, OR, and TX.

Key Responsibilities:

Application Operations & Production Supportโ€ฏ

  • Monitor, support, andโ€ฏmaintainโ€ฏproduction applications to ensure system availability, reliability, and performance.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Review application, server, and system logs to proactivelyโ€ฏidentify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring incidents.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Respond to production incidents, outages, and escalationsโ€ฏin a timely manner.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Establish operational monitoring, alerting, and support procedures.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Partner with development teams to improve application resiliency, observability, and supportability.โ€ฏโ€ฏ

Database Administration & Performance Managementโ€ฏ

  • Manage andโ€ฏmaintainโ€ฏMicrosoft SQL Server environments supporting enterprise applications.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Monitor database performance, storageโ€ฏutilization, indexing strategies, and query optimization.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Develop and execute database maintenance plans to support increasing claims and transaction volumes.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Proactivelyโ€ฏidentifyโ€ฏcapacity constraints and implement scalability improvements.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Support database backups, recovery procedures, and data integrity initiatives.โ€ฏ
  • Collaborate with development teams on data architecture and performance optimization.โ€ฏโ€ฏ

Deployment & Release Managementโ€ฏ

  • Lead and manage application deployments across Development, Test, Staging, and Production environments.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve deployment processes and release procedures.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Coordinate release activities across technical teams and stakeholders.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Validate deployment readiness and execute rollback procedures when necessary.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Maintain deployment schedules and ensure minimal disruption to business operations.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Support CI/CD processes and release automation efforts.โ€ฏโ€ฏ

DevOps & Software Engineering Supportโ€ฏ

  • Support an Agile, Lean, andโ€ฏSAFe-based environment utilizingโ€ฏDevSecOps, CI/CD, and related methodologies.โ€ฏ
  • Manage source control repositories using GitHub or Bitbucket.โ€ฏ
  • Create,โ€ฏmaintain, andโ€ฏoptimizeโ€ฏautomated build and deployment pipelines.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Collaborate on policies, standards, governance, and best practices for software development and operational support.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Partner with developers to improve application performance, maintainability, and deployment efficiency.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Utilize development experience to troubleshoot application issues and support code-level analysis.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Contribute to application enhancements and technical debt reduction activities.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Support JavaScript-based application development efforts as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Eight (8) years ofโ€ฏadditionalโ€ฏrelevant experience may be substituted for education.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting enterprise applications in an operations, DevOps, production support, or engineering role.โ€ฏ
  • Experience supporting production environments with high-volume transactional systems.โ€ฏ
  • Experience leading application deployments and release management activities.โ€ฏ
  • Experience supporting Microsoft-based enterprise applications and infrastructure.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Experience conducting in-depth troubleshooting, triage, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement activities.โ€ฏ
  • Ability to obtain a Government Public Trust clearance.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • U.S. Citizenshipโ€ฏrequired.โ€ฏโ€ฏ
