Amentum is seeking a highly performing Project Director responsible for the overall operation of multiple Engineering projects/contracts supporting our Commercial Nuclear, Environmental Management, Defense, National Security and National Laboratory customers in the Englewood, CO office.
As a member of our team, you would be joining an outstanding group of Project Directors and Project Engineers who are dedicated and passionate about leading the successful execution of projects in the nuclear waste treatment, radioactive waste cleanup, environmental management, and other mission critical design projects. Amentum provides integrated project lifecycle capabilities, operational excellence, consulting services, engineered solutions, and are the global leaders with a solid reputation for successful project delivery and customer service.
As a Project Director supporting our Engineering and Design team, this individual will be fully responsible for the overall management of our Engineering and Design Projects, focused in the areas of:
• DOE O 413.3b, Program and Project Management for the Acquisition of Capital Assets
• Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Management
• Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1)

Reporting to the Director of Design Projects the Project Director must have the appropriate combination of education, experience, expertise, and competency to perform successfully according to the project's/contract's level of financial risk and complexity. Furthermore, the Project Manager is responsible for identification, assessment and adherence to:
  • Contract requirements
  • Implementation of Company Experience and Precedents
  • Risk Assessments as it relates to Design, Technology Selection
  • Design inclusion and complexity
  • Environmental Considerations
  • Labor / subcontracting / JV requirements
  • Strategic Considerations

Responsibility
Working under the supervision of the Director of Design Projects, the Project Director must demonstrate and provide project leadership in their area of responsibility. Including:
  • Demonstrates leadership by example with integrity and candor.
  • Within his/her area of responsibility, consistently demonstrates the ability to proactively identify potential project problems or opportunities, analyze the issues using all appropriate resources, develop alternatives, and arrive at the most optimum approach to mitigate problems or exploit opportunities.
  • Clearly understands scope of work and contract requirements for his/her area of responsibility.
  • Supports Business Development, and Group management in Contract negotiations with customers.
  • Supports or conducts formal presentations to customers and/or management.
  • Ensures establishment of a comprehensive Project Management, Environmental Safety & Health Plan and Crisis Management Plan. Ensure that the Plans are aggressively monitored and requirements are enforced. Actively participates in execution of the plans, including emphasizing the plan in new hire orientation.

The Project Manager shall lead by way of:
  • Exhibiting confidence and positive attitude about the project and the Company.
  • Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills (e.g. conflict resolution, team builder).
  • Maximizing full use of company's resources. Drawing upon the Company's resources in order to successfully find and implement solutions to project execution issues.

  • Develops the next generation of Project Managers, Project Engineers and leaders by providing opportunities and through networking and mentoring.

Judges and Manages Project Risk by:
  • Demonstrating consistency and clear judgment as unexpected problems or opportunities arise.
  • Delivering consistent performance on project assignments.
  • Communicates in a manner that is consistent, effective, and efficient in both written and oral forms, across all levels of the project (customer, internal resources, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, etc.).

Demonstrates Standards Implementation through:
  • Knowledge and application of Administrative Bulletins, Project Execution Procedures, and other company standards as a basis of project execution.
  • Organizing the work and project team within the parameters of the company's standards.
  • Ensuring quality standards are met in compliance with health, safety, security, environmental and design codes and standards (e.g. Company Project Execution Procedures, ISO/ASQ certification, and OSHA/EPA requirements, NQA-1, NRC / NUREG, Codes and Standards)

Execution Planning:
  • Understands and executes the project, employing the Project Execution Plan developed in the proposal stage and expanding it to be effective and in compliance with requirements for each project phase.
  • Ensures development and adherence to the project Work Breakdown Structure, Asset Management, and Workflow Management elements.
  • Expands the Project Execution Plan for subsequent phases (Project Initiation, Project Execution, Construction, etc.) and communicates and coordinates the implementation of the enhancements with the project team.
  • Utilizes key Project Team Training modules (e.g., Pre-Project Planning, Team Building, Project Controls & Change Management).
  • Establishes, tracks and reports status against key performance indicators or contractual metrics on a routine basis.
  • Participates in the establishment of project organizational structure in support of proposal efforts.

Schedule/Operation Performance:
  • Demonstrates command of the schedule goals, key milestones, and approach to the work embodied in the schedule.
  • Ensures that a firm scope-based schedule baseline is established and properly resourced.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the schedule tools, procedures, and work process.
  • Manages performance and progress against the plan and ensures accurate forecasts with commensurate action plans.
  • Reviews, reports and manages key performance measures defined within the contract.
  • Implements corrective measures when measures are outside service levels or bandwidths.
  • Consistently meets or improves upon the established schedule goals in their area of responsibility.

Financial Performance:
  • Demonstrates strong scope control skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the financial goals of the project and what they represent.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Cost Control tools and procedures.
  • Manages performance and progress against the plan and ensures accurate forecasts with commensurate action plans.
  • Establishes annual operating budgets in cooperation with customer, business manager or group financial department. Manages physical assets deployed to the project and provides for best economic decisions incorporating whole-of-life analysis (asset acquisition, deployment, and disposition).
  • Provides accurate monthly forecasts of cost, schedule, and resource utilization.
  • Consistently meets or improves upon the established financial goals in their area of responsibility.

Business Development:
  • Works with Business Development to increase scope of services on existing contracts.
  • Reviews and supports possible enterprise-level relationships from existing smaller contracts.
  • Serves as the proposal manager of small to medium sized project.

Contract Management:
  • Understands the Company's Contract Commandments and can apply their basic principles.
  • Understands and complies with FARs when necessary for government contracts.
  • Understands the scope of work, technical requirements, and commercial terms of the project contract for their area of responsibility.
  • Monitors and ensures contract compliance.
  • Possesses the organizational skills to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Demonstrated experience in vendor subcontract management

Customer Relationship:
  • Builds customer confidence and nurtures positive customer relationships.
  • Consistently advises management concerning customer relations/issues.
  • Supports the project team in negotiations with major suppliers, subcontractors, licensors, consultants, and others.

Minimum Knowledge
Experience: MUST HAVE demonstrated project management experience and/or knowledge the area(s) below:
• DOE O 413.3b, Program and Project Management for the Acquisition of Capital Assets, ideally a portfolio of programs and projects by which candidate can show management level representation.
• Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Management experience
• Large-Scale Demonstration Plants
• Demonstrated management of multiple projects simultaneous at varying scale
• Demonstrated understanding of design process, with consideration for traditional waterfall and agile execution methods

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Possesses 20+ years in engineering, operations/maintenance, M&O, construction, project controls, and/or procurement experience with at least 10+ years active to Federal Projects (DOE).
  • Has a record of proven performance as Senior Project Manager on previous projects. Capable of performing as the project manager on a medium risk, medium to high complexity project.

Industry Experience
Must demonstrate experience in at least two of the following, preferably more:
  • Commercial Nuclear
  • Nuclear waste treatment
  • Energy Industry Experience
  • Utilities for balance of plant
  • Environmental Management
  • Clean Energy (Hydrogen, Advanced Nuclear)
  • Must have direct Experience with Federal Agencies, such as the Department of Energy

Licenses and Certifications
  • Preference given to candidates with Active Professional Engineering License - If not licensed, must meet the years of engineering experience requirement, with preference given to talent with multi-year experience with DOE customers.
  • Preference to those with a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. Attainment of PMP is required within the first year of employment.

Compensation & Benefits
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $190K - $205K (Annually) (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
