Job description
Primary Purpose PURPOSE To promote the safety and well-being of the College community, utilizing established College policies and procedures while working in accordance with the Oregon DPSST Private Security Professional standards. Campus Safety provides patrol services on campus to ensure the safety and security of staff, students, and the public. Observes, reports, and safely intervenes, when appropriate, and reports criminal or illegal acts to outside partner agencies.
Responds and takes appropriate action in the event of a fire or medical emergency and reports to outside partner agencies. This is an On-Call hourly pool. Applications are collected for possible immediate, or future college vacancies.
This type of employment is temporary and often sporadic. You may only be contacted if a review of your application results in the intent to pursue your candidacy. Certification as an unarmed private security professional through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) is required at time of application.

Description of Essential Functions Campus Patrol (85% of Time) Patrol using a motorized vehicle or on foot and inspect campus buildings, grounds, Student Housing, and property for the prevention of theft, fire, vandalism, and personal injury.
Assume responsibility for providing security to students, staff, and the general public on campus. Provide information and assistance to students, staff, and the general public. Deliver emergency messages to students and staff as needed.
While patrolling campus buildings and grounds, survey and note unsafe conditions, taking discretionary measures when necessary. Conduct targeted patrols in response to specific requests for possible prevention of workplace violence. Conduct loss prevention patrols and notifications to individuals on campus for asset protection.
Assist in threat management identification, response and de-escalation as necessary. Patrol college roads and parking areas and warn violators creating hazards by disobeying college traffic and parking regulations. Contact towing agencies when necessary to maintain fire lanes and parking areas, or other situations creating a hazard to other motorists on campus property.
Establishes and maintains positive relationships with staff, students, and the public. At all times, conduct self in a courteous and professional manner, strictly adhering to college policies and procedures. Model and support a community oriented policing model.
Unlock buildings and gates as requested by authorized personnel. Ensure that buildings are secured upon departure of authorized personnel. Provide assistance during emergencies such as medical, bomb threats, and fire; gives emergency first aid which may include CPR and use of an AED; determines if an ambulance or other medical assistance is needed and calls appropriate agency for assistance.
Policy Enforcement (10% of Time) Enforce the Student Conduct Code, College Safety and Security Policies and Procedures, and Student Housing Conduct Code in a proactive manner that educates staff, students, and the public on such policies and procedures. Report violations of Student Conduct Code, College Safety and Security Policies, and Student Housing Conduct Code, unsafe conditions and illegal criminal acts to lead on duty and/or police agencies as appropriate. Contact and cooperate with police and/or emergency service agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses as necessary.
May conduct interviews and investigations concerning complaints, accidents, violations of student conduct code or calls for assistance to record information on thefts, physical violence, and other incidents and advises individuals on how to proceed. Warn persons trespassing or violating college policies and established procedures. General Duties/Recordkeeping (5% of Time) May be asked to provide money drop service, assist in department closures, and escorts individuals to their vehicles upon request.
Accurately complete patrol notebook, daily activity log and prepare handwritten or computer-generated reports for incidents occurring on campus. Follow safety procedures, follow all building codes and maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner. Collect and process lost and found items.
Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED/equivalent. Three (3) years of experience in either a private or public security position. Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.

Ability to effectively communicate orally with groups and/or individual, and deal with peers, the public and the community in a positive, empathetic, and professional manner. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve confrontations and gain cooperation.
Ability to effectively handle possible hostile contacts with individuals on issues of safety and security, parking, student rights, alcohol and drugs, smoking, etc. Ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, life experiences and abilities, including community members, students, faculty, and staff. Exhibit a high level of computer literacy, sufficient to use software such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to produce correspondence, documents, and reports.
Ability to use Internet, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel as needed. Able to learn and function in the College's information management system as well as learn new software as needed. Ability to follow established college and department procedures and work independently to accomplish those procedures.
Ability to explain established policies and procedures using judgment and diplomacy. Ability to work independently while exercising judgment during interactions with students, staff, and the public on campus after hours. Ability to use prudent judgment in dealing with sensitive or emergency situations to avoid dangerous or unpleasant results.

Knowledge and ability to utilize all of the tools and equipment of the position in a safe and responsible manner. Ability to accurately identify, report, and in some instances correct safety hazards on campus. Knowledge and ability to administer first aid in emergency situations.

Security experience in a higher education setting.
