Seeking a Surgical Physician Assistant for a position in Coastal Oregon (Gorgeous Location).
127 bed Level III Trauma, seeks a Physician Assistant to join our collaborative, growing Orthopedic service line. As the largest hospital on the Southern Coast of Oregon with a catchment area of over 320,000, consider joining us in our commitment to serving our amazing community!
Job Description:
• Full-time
• Day Shift + On call TBD based on number of providers sharing the call
• Ability to work weekends occasionally

• Call: shared equitably
• Surgical Assist, ED consults, floor rounding, pre and post op, patient education
• Order tests, review labs, prescribe medications, progress and discharge notes
• Custom orientation adapted to your skills
• PAs are assigned to the pool of 2-3 surgeons.
• Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physical exams, interprets and correlates laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
• Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnose and establish a working diagnosis.
• Formulates a treatment plan for Orthopedic problems within scope of practice. Implements therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate.
• Exercises judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising Orthopedic surgeon or other health care professionals.
• Orders, collects, and performs appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures, and studies including but not limited to blood and tissue specimens.
• Orders or performs diagnostic studies such as, but not limited to, EMG, electrocardiogram, compartment pressure measurements, and x-ray examinations including special x¬ray examinations CT, MRI, and bone scans etc.
• Performs procedures such as, but not limited to, digital blocks, regional anesthesia, and minor outpatient surgical procedures such as but not limited to: tendon repair, wound closure, wound management, wound debridement, incision and drainage, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning of fractures, k-wire removal and hardware removal.
• Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, joint and bursa aspirations, closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, injections of joints, tendons, trigger points and bursa, as well as brace, cast and splint applications.
• Assists in surgery to include but not limited to, first assist, deep and superficial tissue closures, application of appliances and any other action delegated by the surgeon. Conducts hospital rounds, writes orders, and otherwise assists the Orthopedic surgeon.
• Serves as primary orthopedic call for Bay Area Hospital's patients in the Emergency Department and various inpatient units. Will participate in call coverage along with other employed and non-employed PA's and NP's including regular weekday, weekend and 24-hour call. May be asked to rotate schedule to provide call during holiday, weekend and night coverage.
• Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions, formulates and implements a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, dictates discharge summaries, histories and physicals.
• Orders, prescribes, dispenses, and administers medication, orthosis, orthotics, braces and other orthopedic devices as may be allowed by state legislation.
• Evaluates, screens and councils patients on health maintenance and promotes utilization of community resources.
• Designs, conducts and/or participates in research studies, manages databases, and performs quality assurance.
• In collaboration with the attending physician, prepares and records patient history, develops and implements a plan of care
• Participates in daily rounds on assigned patients and documents the pertinent symptoms, findings, diagnoses and care plans.
• Utilizes electronic medical record for order entry and documentation.
• Participates in multidisciplinary rounding
• Responds to coding and documentation queries and participates as requested in quality and safety initiatives.
• SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, family members and the healthcare team
- Ability to work independently and perform effectively in stressful and/or emergent situations
- Demonstrates initiative and motivation
- Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of Hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups
- Understands of anatomy, diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, methods and equipment.
- Ability to complete clinical and surgical responsibilities in a timely fashion
- Analytical ability to monitor data, develop treatment plans and prescribe medication
- Exercises good judgment, demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
- Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently
- Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
• PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
- Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
- Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
- Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
- Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
- May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
- Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
- Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- May require periodic use of personal computer

Compensation and Benefits:
• Base salary $160,000 (This represents the rate for an individual with significant experience in this job in a full-time 40 hour per week position).
