Job Description:

Responsible for supervising daily professional billing coding operations to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency. Provides oversight of staff performance, workflow management, and quality assurance. Develops staff through training, mentoring, and performance evaluation. Collaborates with providers, revenue cycle leadership, and compliance teams to optimize coding practices and ensure regulatory adherence.

Supervises professional coding staff, assigning workloads and monitoring productivity and accuracy.

Conducts performance evaluations, provides feedback, and develops training plans.

Oversees resolution of escalated coding and documentation issues.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, payer, and organizational coding regulations.

Monitors key performance indicators for coding operations and prepares reports for leadership.

Coordinates with providers to improve documentation practices and support accurate coding.

Participates in departmental budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation.

Supports audits, compliance reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience Requirement: 0-4 years of related/progressive experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.

Certifications & Licensures: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P) or equivalent required.
