Description:

Director of Human Resources & Payroll

We are seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources & Payroll to lead and oversee HR, payroll, benefits, employee relations, and compliance functions for a growing multi-location, multi-state organization. This position requires a strong combination of HR leadership, payroll expertise, benefits administration, compliance knowledge, and financial accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead HR operations including recruiting, onboarding, employee changes, performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, policies, and employee relations.
  • Oversee accurate and timely biweekly and monthly payroll processing, including timecards, overtime, paid time off, deductions, garnishments, commissions, bonuses, and payroll adjustments.
  • Manage multi-state payroll tax requirements, quarterly payroll returns, W-2 reconciliation, payroll funding, accruals, journal entries, and payroll-related GL reconciliations.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including self-funded medical insurance, dental, vision, life, disability, and COBRA, and reconcile benefit deductions, invoices, and funding.
  • Oversee the Company's 401(k) plan, including contributions, compliance, annual audits, testing, and required filings.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state employment requirements, including DOL, FLSA, FMLA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, OSHA, IRS, and EEO requirements.
  • Manage workers' compensation reporting, unemployment claims, employment verifications, annual audits, regulatory filings, and required workplace postings.
  • Prepare and analyze payroll, compensation, commission, benefit, and workforce reports for management, budgeting, and projections.
  • Maintain HR/payroll systems and employee records, including Paylocity and related benefit and retirement platforms.
  • Partner with executive leadership, managers, employment counsel, brokers, auditors, and insurance providers on HR, payroll, benefits, and compliance matters.
  • Lead and develop HR/payroll staff, maintain appropriate checks and balances, and ensure critical processes are documented and cross-trained.
  • Assist with payroll-related accounting, reconciliations, year-end audit requirements, and special projects as needed.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding employee, payroll, medical, financial, and Company information.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Human Resources and payroll administration, preferably within a multi-location and multi-state organization.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, payroll taxation, employee relations, benefits administration, employment compliance, and 401(k) administration.
  • Experience with self-funded health plans strongly preferred.
  • Experience with payroll accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, commissions, and year-end payroll reporting.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and independent judgment.
  • Experience with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS/payroll platform preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
