POSITION SUMMARY:
Our Instructional Coaches ensure that Tapestry provides our students and families with a world-class K-12 educational experience. Each Instructional Coach helps to make this possible by helping one of our three schools to achieve ambitious annual goals for its students and staff. Tapestry Instructional Coaches are charged with supporting a group of Tapestry teachers to create progressive and dynamic, student-centered learning environments that create outstanding results for our students. As a result, Instructional Coaches support our teachers by providing assistance in their classrooms, coaching meetings, planning meetings and data meetings. Our Instructional Coaches also build strong relationships with the teachers they support and their students to ensure that each teacher can receive the differentiated support they need to thrive. Tapestry Instructional Coaches are also key members of their school's leadership team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning and Alignment
  • Continuously invests their teachers in a shared vision for how students will demonstrate the core principles of the Expeditionary Learning Model (Mastery of Knowledge and Skills, Character and High Quality Work).
  • Provides input into their school's annual priorities and goals.
  • Develops and implements an annual work plan that ensures that their school will achieve ambitious goals for students and staff.
  • Presents at quarterly step back meetings to review the progress made against their work plans, celebrating areas of success and building action plans to address areas of growth.
  • Continuously invests their teachers in a shared vision for how staff members experience their work at Tapestry-including how they will receive ongoing coaching and support in a collaborative environment focused on student success.
  • Continuously invests the families of their students in a shared vision for how students and families experience their time at Tapestry-including by positively engaging with their families, addressing concerns as they arise, and partnering with the school's parent organization.
  • Cultivates a school-wide belief that all students can learn and achieve at high levels.

School Accountability
  • Partners with the Principal to understand the criteria that the SUNY Charter Schools Institute will use to evaluate the success of their school during this charter term.
  • Ensures that their school's program aligns to the mission and key design elements as well as the goals and expectations of the SUNY Charter Schools Institute.
  • Participates in an annual evaluation with their Principal.
  • Implements Tapestry's staff evaluation process in partnership with their Principal, ensuring that all teachers they coach receive an annual evaluation.
  • Spends focused time with their Principal and a Director of Curriculum and Assessment at their campus each week that is designed to help them successfully implement their work plan and achieve their annual goals.

Professional Development
  • Participates in summer professional development, including New Teacher Orientation, summer academic leader development and all staff professional development.
  • Partners with their Principal and a Director of Curriculum and Assessment to develop the plan for K-12 Tapestry professional development days throughout the school year.
  • Collaborates with their Principal to develop annual professional development plans for their campus that are aligned to their campus work plan and the priority work and goals of Tapestry's strategic plan.
  • Ensures that all campus staff receive the training and support necessary to build culturally responsive classrooms that emphasize building strong learning partnerships that help students develop into independent learners.

Staff Coaching and Supervision
  • Continuously invests staff in a shared vision for how to implement the school's key design elements in pursuit of achieving its academic, cultural and operational goals.
  • Supports all staff to gain a deep understanding of the core practices of the Expeditionary Learning model, including its emphasis on leadership, curriculum, instruction, culture and character, and student-engaged assessment.
  • Implements Tapestry's shared practices and systems to ensure that EL's innovative approach is translating into strong outcomes for all Tapestry students.
  • Implement best practices in data informed instruction, including backwards planning from assessments, effective assessment administration; data analysis; and the implementation of action plans to respond to data.
  • Implements best practices in instructional planning, including internalizing the rigor bar of priority assessments; unpacking curricular resources; establishing expectations for content-specific instruction; and the creation of lesson internalization systems that support high-quality instruction.
  • Implements best practices in establishing and maintaining strong staff culture, including drafting their vision for staff culture and related expectations for staff members at their campus; rolling out these expectations to staff; monitoring the strength of staff culture on an ongoing basis; and implementing action plans to address gaps in staff culture.

Human Resources
  • Supports their school's efforts to recruit, select and retain a high-quality staff that are committed to the vision and mission of Tapestry.
  • Partners with the Director of Human Resources to understand the human resources policies that apply to all K-12 staff.
  • Partners with the DHR to implement Tapestry's K-12 recruitment and selection process, including, for example, by participating in campus-based interview teams to facilitate interviews with potential staff.
  • Partners with the DHR to ensure strong ongoing communication to staff members, particularly in critical areas like any updates to employee benefits.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful past experience as teacher and/or grade level leader with a track-record of inspiring high levels of student growth and achievement required.
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or similar degree preferred.
  • NYS Certification as a school building leader or school district leader preferred.
  • 5+ years of certified teaching and/or appropriate supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with expeditionary learning and project-based learning is preferred
  • Previous experience in an urban school district or district with an urban population preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Unwavering belief that Tapestry's students can perform at the highest level academically.
  • Knowledge of best practices in school leadership, including, but not necessarily limited to, how to implement the Core Practices of Expeditionary Learning to drive transformational outcomes for students.
  • Excellent organization skills, including the ability to set priorities, manage their time, and ensure the successful completion of long-term projects
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate information verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, including with a wide variety of diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of instructional best practices frequently used in charter schools sponsored by the SUNY Charter Schools Institute.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion including walking, bending, standing. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers to complete typing, filing, and data entry. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Position requires talking, walking, driving, speaking and comprehension of complex matters.
