What is a Co Op Refinery?

A Co Op Refinery is an industrial facility operated by a cooperative organization, where crude oil is processed and refined into various petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. In Canada, the most well-known example is the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina, Saskatchewan, owned by Federated Co-operatives Limited. These refineries play a key role in supplying fuel and energy products to member co-ops and their communities. The cooperative model means that profits and decision-making are shared among the member organizations, supporting local economies.

Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), computerized maintenance management systems, and various refinery equipment is commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively under pressure distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualifications are essential for maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant refinery operations.
