Job Description:

Purpose: Participates in co-op program for temporary duration. Assists and contributes to assigned team for duration of temporary internship/co-op. Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from colleagues in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.

You will be responsible for:

    • Participate in the design and development of research studies to explore potential of new materials, technologies, and/or products.

    • Become familiar with orthopaedic industry specific R&D testing and materials, as well as standard materials manufacturing processes including investment casting, forging, powder metallurgy, and heat treating.

    • Work with cross-functional teams and alongside experienced scientists and engineers.

    • Observe world class operations in a J&J MedTech manufacturing facility, as well as take advantage of on-site training courses.

    • Characterization of materials and evaluation of processes for newly designed and/or current products; performing wear, functional mechanical, and/or impaction studies; providing technical assistance, as needed; developing new test methods and/or equipment; and performing failure analyses.

    • Oral presentations to staff. Preparation and review of technical reports, utilize sound analytical techniques, and maintain good laboratory procedures.

Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Candidate must be enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college/university during the Summer (May/June - August) or Fall (August - December) 2026.

    • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant Engineering major, such as Materials Science & Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent academic major.

    • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Co-op session.

    • Co-op sessions: Fall (Aug-Dec), or Full Year (Aug 2026 - Aug 2027).

    • Only students that have completed their freshman year or above by the start of their first work rotation will be considered.

    • This position is located in Warsaw, Indiana. Students must be able to provide their own transportation to and from this location.

    • A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is preferred.

    • Candidates with demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus/community service activities are preferred.

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
