As of Jul 6, 2026, the average hourly pay for cna trainee in Indiana is $19.09, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.58 and $21.49 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cna Trainee position, and why are they important?

To excel as a CNA Trainee, you should possess a basic knowledge of patient care, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a genuine interest in healthcare. CNA Trainees typically learn to use medical equipment and electronic health record (EHR) systems as part of their training. Compassion, patience, and effective communication are soft skills that help trainees connect with patients and work well within a healthcare team. These qualities are essential for delivering safe, attentive care and building strong professional relationships in clinical settings.

What is a CNA Trainee job?

A CNA Trainee job is an entry-level position where individuals receive hands-on training to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). Trainees work under the supervision of licensed nurses to learn essential skills like assisting patients with daily activities, taking vital signs, and providing basic care. Many programs offer paid training, and successful completion may lead to certification and full-time CNA employment.

How long is CNA training?

CNA training in Indiana typically lasts between 80 to 120 hours, which includes classroom instruction and clinical practice. The program duration can vary depending on the training provider and whether the course is full-time or part-time, but most programs are completed within 4 to 6 weeks. After completing the training, candidates must pass a state competency exam to become certified.

What does a typical workday look like for a CNA Trainee?

As a CNA Trainee, your workday usually involves shadowing experienced CNAs, assisting with basic patient care tasks such as bathing, feeding, and mobility support, and learning about patient safety protocols. You may also participate in classroom and hands-on training sessions to build your skills and knowledge. Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with nurses and other healthcare professionals, gaining valuable experience in a real clinical environment. This hands-on approach helps you prepare for certification and future responsibilities as a fully licensed CNA.

How to become a CNA with no experience?

To become a CNA with no experience, you need to complete a state-approved training program and pass the certification exam. These programs typically include classroom instruction and supervised clinical practice, and some states require a background check and immunizations before certification. Gaining basic healthcare skills and volunteering in healthcare settings can also help build relevant experience.

Can you make $100,000 as a CNA?

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) typically earn lower annual salaries, often between $25,000 and $40,000, depending on location, experience, and work setting. Earning $100,000 as a CNA is uncommon and would generally require additional certifications, advanced roles, or working in high-paying regions or specialized facilities.

Can you work as a CNA while in training?

Yes, CNA trainees can work in some healthcare settings while completing their training, often in roles such as nursing assistant or aide under supervision. However, they must obtain certification and meet state-specific requirements before performing certain tasks independently.
