To excel as a Closed Captioning Editor, you need excellent grammar, spelling, and listening skills, often supported by a background in English, communications, or media production. Familiarity with captioning software such as EZTitles, CaptionMaker, or similar tools, and awareness of standards like FCC or ADA regulations, are highly beneficial. They transcribe dialogue, sound effects, and other relevant audio elements while ensuring proper synchronization with the visuals. Attention to detail, grammar, and timing are crucial for maintaining readability and accuracy. Many professionals in this role use specialized captioning software to enhance efficiency and compliance with industry standards.
