Applying to companies, record labels, or music festivals with a well-crafted resume and cover letter is essential, and some internships may require knowledge of industry-standard tools like Pro Tools or Ableton Live. Networking and demonstrating passion for music can also improve chances of securing an internship in the industry.

What are typical daily tasks for remote music internship positions?

Remote music interns frequently assist with tasks such as editing audio tracks, helping with music catalog organization, conducting industry research, and supporting marketing or social media campaigns. Daily activities may also involve attending virtual team meetings, collaborating on creative projects, transcribing music, or identifying potential artists or playlist placements. Although interactions often happen online, interns are given opportunities to develop technical skills and gain exposure to various aspects of the music business. This structure encourages independence while offering guidance and feedback from experienced music professionals.

Can you work remotely as an intern?

Music internships can often be completed remotely, especially those focused on tasks like music production, editing, or marketing. However, some internships may require in-person attendance for performances, studio sessions, or networking events, so it depends on the specific internship's structure and employer policies.

Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Ableton Live or Logic Pro, online collaboration tools, and basic proficiency in recording or editing software are commonly expected. Strong communication, time management, and self-motivation are key soft skills for remote environments. These abilities enable interns to work independently, stay organized, and contribute effectively to music projects and teams from a distance.

About Surya Sound Temple

Surya Sound Temple is a private music sanctuary in Bushwick, Brooklyn, dedicated to instrumentalists, producers, and artists exploring sound through creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural traditions.

Our studio is home to a growing ecosystem of original projects, including:

  • Electrobones โ€“ handcrafted wooden MIDI percussion instruments and acoustic pickups
  • Khartal โ€“ modern ergonomic hand percussion inspired by traditional Indian instruments
  • Art of Tabla โ€“ percussion education rooted in the tabla tradition
  • Speedbag Drummer โ€“ rhythm-based coordination and movement training
  • Flakeb00k โ€“ original visual art and creative storytelling

In addition to our educational programs, we design and manufacture products, produce creative media, and offer recording and content production services.

About the Internship

This internship is designed for individuals who want real-world experience inside an independent creative studio.

Rather than making coffee or filing paperwork, youโ€™ll contribute to active projects while learning how a multidisciplinary music studio operates.

This position is experience-based and is ideal for students, recent graduates, creatives, and musicians looking to build their portfolio, receive mentorship, or earn a professional reference.

Responsibilities

Depending on your interests and strengths, you may assist with:

  • Studio operations and organization
  • Videography and photography
  • Video editing and social media content
  • Music production and recording sessions
  • Instrument setup and tuning
  • Product development and creative research
  • Marketing and community outreach
  • Administrative and project support
  • Event preparation and documentation

Every internship is slightly different based on current studio projects and your individual skills.

Who Weโ€™re Looking For

We value curiosity, initiative, and a genuine passion for music.

Ideal candidates are:

  • Musicians or artists
  • Interested in recording, media, design, or creative technology
  • Organized and dependable
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Excited to learn in a hands-on creative environment

Bonus skills include:

  • Pro Tools
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Photography or videography
  • Graphic design
  • Woodworking or instrument repair
  • Social media content creation

Selection Process

We receive a large number of internship applications throughout the year and accept only a small group of interns.

Weโ€™re not looking for perfect rรฉsumรฉsโ€”weโ€™re looking for people who have taken the time to understand our work and can explain why they want to be part of it.

Before applying, we encourage you to explore our projects and learn about what we create.

To Apply

  1. Follow @suryasoundtemple on Instagram.
  2. Send us:
    • A brief introduction about yourself
    • Your rรฉsumรฉ (optional but encouraged)
    • Links to your portfolio, social media, or creative work (if available)
    • A few sentences explaining why Surya Sound Temple interests you specifically

We believe meaningful experience comes from curiosity, commitment, and contributing to something larger than yourself. If that resonates with you, weโ€™d love to hear from you.
