What is an internship video game storyboard?

An Internship Video Game Storyboard position is a temporary role designed for students or early-career professionals interested in learning how to visually outline the narrative and gameplay sequences for video games. Interns in this role collaborate with game designers, writers, and artists to create storyboards that map out scenes, character actions, and key moments in the game's story. This helps the development team visualize the flow of the game and plan animations, dialogue, and camera angles. The internship provides hands-on experience, feedback, and insight into the creative process within the gaming industry.

What are the typical responsibilities and learning opportunities for an intern in video game storyboarding?

As an intern in video game storyboarding, you can expect to assist with creating visual narratives, developing storyboards that illustrate gameplay sequences, and collaborating with writers, artists, and game designers. You'll often participate in brainstorming sessions, help revise storyboards based on feedback, and learn how to adapt visual storytelling techniques to interactive media. This role provides valuable exposure to the game development pipeline and the chance to build a portfolio while gaining insight into how narrative and gameplay are integrated.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship video game storyboard artist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Video Game Storyboard Artist, you need foundational skills in visual storytelling, drawing, and understanding of narrative structure, often supported by coursework or a portfolio in animation or game design. Familiarity with digital illustration tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Storyboard Pro, or similar software is typically expected.
