Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in healthcare analytics, supply chain management, value analysis, clinical operations, financial analysis, or a related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four (4) or more years of experience in healthcare value analysis, clinical supply chain, utilization management, resource management, or related healthcare operations.
- Experience in an acute care hospital, academic medical center, integrated delivery network, or other complex healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with public-sector procurement and contracting processes, preferably within the State of Texas, UT System, or other governmental organizations.

Job Summary:
The Clinical Value Analysis Specialist serves as the primary analytical and operational support resource for the Clinical Value Analysis (CVA) program, working under the direction of the Clinical Value Analysis Manager and in close collaboration with assigned Clinical Category Manager(s). This role is responsible for data extraction, analysis, and reporting to support evidence-based product evaluation and standardization decisions; coordination of product trials and new item requests; development and maintenance of VA templates, dashboards, and performance metrics; and execution of VA workflows to ensure compliance with UTMB policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The Specialist provides analytical rigor and process discipline to enable Category Managers and clinical committees to make data-driven decisions that reduce the total cost of care, improve patient safety, and optimize clinical outcomes.
Job Duties:
Data Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Extract, analyze, and model clinical spend, utilization, outcomes, and reimbursement data from ERP, contract management, EMR, and other systems to support category strategies, new item evaluations, standardization initiatives, and supply disruption management.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and scorecards to measure Value Analysis (VA) performance, including savings realization, utilization trends, standardization compliance, product adoption, and quality/safety outcomes.
- Conduct financial, clinical, and operational analyses for product evaluations, including total cost of care, cost-per-case comparisons, utilization forecasting, reimbursement impact, and review of clinical evidence.
- Validate and monitor outcomes of standardization, conversion, and cost-reduction initiatives by measuring savings realization, performance against baseline metrics, and opportunities for further optimization.
- Prepare business cases and executive-level analytical summaries integrating clinical, financial,
quality, safety, and reimbursement considerations to support value-based decision-making. - Benchmark product utilization, pricing, and outcomes against peer organizations, GPO data,
industry standards, and published evidence.
Clinical Value Analysis Process Execution
- Manage intake and triage of clinical product requests, ensuring completeness, alignment with contracts and category strategies, and appropriate committee routing.
- Execute CVA workflows from request initiation through committee review, product evaluation, decision documentation, implementation support, and post-implementation monitoring.
- Coordinate product trials and evaluations, including trial design, clinician feedback collection, performance monitoring, and preparation of recommendations for committee and category leadership review.
- Monitor compliance with CVA policies, standardization decisions, substitution protocols, and supply disruption processes; escalate issues as appropriate.
- Track and validate savings, cost avoidance, and financial outcomes associated with CVA initiatives in partnership with Category Managers and Finance.
Program, Tool, and System Management
- Develop, maintain, and enhance CVA tools, templates, scoring methodologies, business case frameworks, and decision-support resources.
- Maintain CVA reporting capabilities and communicate program performance, savings pipelines, standardization progress, trial status, and committee effectiveness to leadership.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and data steward for CVA-related systems, ensuring data integrity, resolving issues, and identifying automation and workflow improvement opportunities.
- Maintain CVA documentation, including committee charters, policies, procedures, training materials, and knowledge management resources.
Committee Support & Stakeholder Communication
- Provide administrative and analytical support for CVA committees and workgroups, including agenda preparation, meeting materials, data analysis, minutes, action-item tracking, and follow-up coordination.
- Communicate CVA decisions, project status, and implementation requirements to stakeholders using standardized processes and communication tools.
- Partner with Category Managers to align CVA activities with sourcing strategies, contract renewals, supplier evaluations, and contract performance reviews.
- Support training and change-management initiatives by analyzing adoption, compliance, and utilization data and identifying opportunities for education and standardization.
Research, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor healthcare supply chain, clinical product, regulatory, and value analysis trends to support evidence-based decision-making and program advancement.
- Ensure CVA activities comply with UTMB policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance data quality, workflow efficiency, stakeholder engagement, standardization, utilization optimization, and cost management.
- Proactively identify opportunities for cost reduction, utilization management, and clinical standardization through ongoing analysis of spend, variation, and product performance data.
Marginal or Periodic Functions
- Support supplier business reviews, strategic planning activities, process improvement initiatives, and cross-functional projects.
- Prepare data and documentation for regulatory reporting, audits, and UT System/UT Alliance initiatives.
- Represent Clinical Value Analysis on assigned quality, patient safety, operational, and multidisciplinary committees.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Technical & Analytical Knowledge
- Knowledge of healthcare supply chain, clinical value analysis, and healthcare financial principles, including cost, utilization, reimbursement, and outcomes analysis.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex clinical, operational, and financial data and develop actionable recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI (or similar business intelligence tools) for data analysis, reporting, dashboard development, and presentation of findings.
- Ability to develop business cases, performance metrics, and benchmarking analyses to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Working knowledge of ERP, contract management, EMR, and business intelligence systems
preferred.
Healthcare & Analytical Knowledge
- Understanding of clinical workflows, evidence-based practice, patient safety principles, and product evaluation processes within a healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies and the financial impacts of clinical product decisions.

- Project Management & Problem Solving
Working Environment:
- Occasional exposure to patient care environments (operating rooms, hospital floors, clinics) for
product evaluations, trials, and stakeholder engagement. - Local travel between UTMB campuses and clinical facilities as needed for committee meetings,
