Overview

General: Assists Applications Manager in the technical management of the clinicial systems support and deployment by ensuring proper day to day operations and support for clinical users and adherence to agreed upon project plans. Serves as a resource person. Primary duties include ensuring compliance with IS policies/procedures/ regulatory requirements, problem solving, teaching/training, and communication. Under the Manager's direction, works closely with the IS Program Manager, user task force groups and committees, including physicians, and other stakeholders. Assumes implementation and on-going responsibilities for clinical software applications. Specific: Responsible for activities related to implementation/support of clinical systems, including change management, problem management, security access, and documentation. Applies structured analysis and design techniques to operational requirements of each application. Analyzes software applications, system performance and user department's workflow. Ensures functional requirements of the hospital are met via the computer software. Serves as liaison with clinical departments, clinical committees, and Information Systems. Prepares and presents reports and plans and status to hospital management. Provides clinical leadership within the IS department, guiding and coaching analysts and advising user committees and IS leadership. Is responsible for implementation, including building, report writing, and technical support of assigned applications.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates ability to plan and organize work flow to maximize productivity while maintaining quality, safety and customer satisfaction. 

  • Supports department by monitoring regulatory/accreditation compliance. 

  • Takes actions to address deficiencies as appropriate. 

  • Trains new and current team members and students.

  • Provides feedback to leadership about team members' performance, including need for coaching, counseling, disciplinary action. 
  • Assists leadership in completing initial and annual performance appraisals. 

  • Recommends/Assists with the preparation of departmental training and education, quality and safety programs and performance improvement projects. 

  • Acts as resource person for daily operations within the department, section or unit. Very knowledgeable about the specific aspects/technical details of the job, and readily share knowledge with others. 

  • Participates in the interview process and provides feedback on candidates.

  • Leads applications analysts to support, implement, maintain and upgrade assigned clinical applications, following department and hospital policy and procedure, to meet organizational and departmental objectives. 

  • Ensures systems are maintained in accordance with policy, established service levels and professional and regulatory standards. 

  • Assist Applications Manager by managing support schedule for clinical team, and leading team in accomplishing clinical team assignments. 

  • Provides technical application support for assigned projects, including setting system parameters, tables, codes, building screens, developing reports, etc.

  • Assists in determining procedural requirements for the system and assists departments in writing and implementing system policies and procedures. 

  • Prepares and maintains work plans for new system implementations, major projects and upgrades assigned to them. 

  • Works with user departments to develop test scenarios and strategies for system enhancements and modifications to existing systems. 

  • Determines user needs and requirements by collecting information and interviewing departmental personnel to ascertain possible solutions resulting in functional specifications and provides them to the vendor for resolution Coordinates prioritization of requests from clinical user departments. 

  • Acts as liaison between clinical departments, nursing informatics, and Information Systems. 

  • Assist in identification and resolution of system problems and issues. Ensures clinical issues are recorded and tracked through the use of the IS tracking system.

  • Prioritizes clinical system issues and ensures escalation of priority issues to IS Management and vendors. 

  • Collaborates with members of clinical user groups, including physician advisory committees and IT governance committees to provide recommendations and advice regarding clinical applications planning and use, including identifying education needs and creates programs to improve effective use of clinical systems.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient care and stream-line inefficiencies in clinical practice through the use of information systems. 

  • Recommends applications improvements, enhancements, new applications, and coordinates project plans, clinical applications road map, and activities with Program Manager, Applications Manager, and IS Director. Advises IT leadership in planning and budgeting for clinical systems in support of the organizations goals and objectives.

Qualifications

Experience mentoring analysts and working with physicians and other clinical users in support of applications. Minimum five years hospital clinical experience. Minimum of three years experience with comprehensive suite of clinical applications. Epic certifications in Clindoc, Orders, and ASAP strongly preferred.
