$5,000 SIGN-ON BONUS FOR FULL-TIME CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANTS 

WITH AT LEAST TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Note: The compensation range noted above represents the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. Valley Health Systems, Inc., the parent company of Holyoke Medical Center, provides a broad range of physician services in offices conveniently located throughout Western Massachusetts. Holyoke Medical Center is an independent community hospital that has served the healthcare needs of the Pioneer Valley for over 125 years.  We continue to grow and address the needs of our community through quality and patient-centered care. 

Our Neurology & Sleep Physician Practice in Springfield is seeking an experienced Medical or Clinical Assistant to perform duties within the scope of responsibility of a medical assistant with additional tasks related to patient flow in the office. 

Overview of responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Escort patients to clinical areas, obtain vital signs, document visit information in the electronic medical record, and prepare patients for provider examinations.

  • Collect and update patient history, medications, allergies, and family history, and identify prescription refill needs.

  • Process prescription requests and coordinate with providers for approval and controlled medication signatures.

  • Communicate clearly with patients, notify them of delays, and guide them through the check-in and check-out process.

  • Coordinate follow-up care, including appointments, referrals, diagnostic testing, and patient education materials.

  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records and ensure proper documentation of clinical services such as immunizations and supplies.

  • Assist providers during patient exams, procedures, and treatments, and perform delegated clinical tasks (e.g., screenings, ear lavage, splinting, nebulizer treatments, injections).

  • Prepare and maintain supplies, equipment, and instruments needed for patient care.

  • Review patient charts for relevant clinical information, including lab results and consultation reports.

  • Maintain exam rooms and clinical areas by stocking supplies and ensuring cleanliness between visits and at the end of the day.

  • Support office operations by answering phones, assisting with patient education, and helping maintain inventory and equipment.

  • Monitor quality control logs, refrigerator logs, and report equipment malfunctions to management.

  • Maintain a safe, organized work environment and communicate operational needs to supervisors.

  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and assist other practice locations when needed.

Qualifications:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent; must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Must follow the requisites to the appropriate profession, respectively:

  • Medical Assistant: Successful completion of a Medical Assistant school with ABHES or CAAHEP accreditation; must be registered/certified within six months of hire with one of the following: RMA/AMT, CMA/AAMA, or CCMA/NHA 
  • Emergency Medical Technician: Must hold an EMT Certification in Massachusetts
  • Certified Nursing Assistant: Must hold a CNA Certification in Massachusetts

Licenses/Registrations: Current CPR certification.

Experience: Two years of general experience as a medical assistant in a patient care or clinic environment preferred

Special Aptitudes & Activities: Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow written and verbal instructions accurately. This role requires knowledge of physician office billing procedures, medical terminology, basic administrative skills such as typing and filing, and proficiency with computer systems. Candidates should also possess the manual dexterity, attention to detail, and physical capabilities needed to safely perform clinical and administrative duties, including tasks such as venipuncture and patient assistance.
