Job description

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Clinical Informatics Coordinator reports to the department leadership and is responsible for coordinating aspects of the planning, research, development, and implementation of clinical information systems and services.  
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides ongoing consultative services to staff on clinical systems. 
    • Works collaboratively on various team and committees in support of the organization’s healthcare informatics processes.
    • Maintains knowledge of trends and advances in the field of nursing and healthcare informatics.
    • Ensures information systems are consistent with professional standards of practice.
    • Recommends clinical process improvements and system developments. 
    • Analyzes complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision making regarding clinical systems.
    • Coordinates and provides education on clinical information initiatives in accordance with the strategic objectives of the organization.
    • Acts as a liaison between assigned division and the Information Services department.
    • May require travel to offsite locations in the performance of job responsibilities.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
    • Master's degree in Informatics or Informatics certification preferred. 
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • 5+ years of nursing experience required. Pediatrics preferred.
    • 1+ year of Informatics experience required
    • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through the completion of an accredited School of Nursing.
    • Demonstrated ability to be self directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, interpersonal and project managements skills necessary. 
    • Expertise in Microsoft Office software applications and operating systems. 
    • Must possess critical systems thinking as it relates to system analysis, design, implementation and evaluation. 
    • Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the hospital, if required by position.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
