Location: San Jose, CA - Full-time on site
Position Overview
The Construction Technology Manager (CTM) is responsible for leading the strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement of construction technology across our design-build MEP operations. This role ensures that digital tools-particularly BIM, AutoCAD, Revit, fabrication modeling, and field technologies-are effectively supporting design coordination, prefabrication, shop production, and field execution.
The CTM acts as the bridge between engineering, fabrication, operations, and field teams, ensuring technology investments translate into improved productivity, quality, safety, and predictability.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on standardization, enablement, and scale, not full-time drafting or modeling.
Key Responsibilities
  • Technology Leadership & Strategy
    • Own and manage the company's construction technology ecosystem, including BIM, CAD, model coordination, and field platforms.
    • Define and maintain company standards for Revit, AutoCAD, BIM execution, model handoff, and digital deliverables.
    • Evaluate, pilot, and implement new technologies that improve design-build delivery, prefabrication, and field productivity.
  • BIM, CAD & Model Governance (MEP-Focused)
    • Provide enterprise-level ownership of Revit and AutoCAD for MEP design-build workflows.
    • Establish and maintain:
      • Revit templates, families, and shared parameters aligned to MEP and fabrication needs
      • CAD standards, layering, and file management practices
    • Support model coordination, clash detection, and constructability reviews in partnership with engineering and project teams.
    • Ensure models are structured to support:
      • Quantity takeoffs
      • Spooling and fabrication
      • Prefab assemblies
      • Accurate field installation
  • Prefabrication & Shop Enablement
    • Partner with fabrication and shop leadership to ensure models and data support:
      • Spool extraction
      • Material tracking
      • CNC and automated fabrication workflows (where applicable)
    • Standardize model requirements and handoff processes between design, shop, and field.
    • Help reduce rework by improving upstream model quality and constructability.
  • Training, Adoption & Support
    • Develop and deliver training programs for:
      • Engineers and designers
      • BIM/VDC staff
      • Project managers and superintendents
    • Provide advanced troubleshooting and workflow support for Revit, AutoCAD, and related tools.
    • Drive consistent adoption of standards across projects and regions.
  • Integration with Operations & Field
    • Ensure technology workflows integrate with:
      • Project controls
      • Scheduling
      • Cost management
      • Field data capture
    • Support field teams with constructible models, drawings, and digital tools.
    • Gather feedback from operations and the field to continuously improve workflows.
  • Collaboration & Governance
    • Work closely with:
      • Engineering and design teams
      • Fabrication/shop leadership
      • Project management and operations
      • IT (for licensing, security, and infrastructure)
    • Manage relationships with software vendors and technology partners
    • Track ROI and performance impacts of technology initiatives.

What This Role Is - and Is Not
This role is:
  • Enterprise owner of BIM/CAD systems and standards
  • Focused on enablement, scale, and operational outcomes
  • Closely aligned with prefab and self-perform MEP work

This role is not:
  • A full-time Revit modeler or drafter
  • A project-specific BIM Coordinator
  • Traditional IT support

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in MEP construction, design-build delivery, or fabrication, with strong technology exposure.
  • Deep working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD in an MEP construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • BIM for construction (LOD, coordination, constructability)
    • Design-build workflows
    • Prefabrication and spooling processes
  • Proven experience developing standards, templates, and workflows.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field leadership, engineers, and executives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC fabrication shops.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Model-based estimating and scheduling
    • Field technology platforms
    • Data integration between BIM and project controls
  • Experience leading technology change management across multiple projects or regions.

Compensation: $134k-$150k, depending on experience
