Job Summary
The Offshore Welder position requires the individual to demonstrate the ability to weld on piping and/or structural components as directed and per Acadian (or customer) welding procedure requirements. The role demands efficient, productive work throughout the day, punctual attendance, and professionalism in all working relationships. The Welder is ultimately responsible for the quality and completeness of their workmanship. Acadian Contractors, Inc. maintains a continuing policy of non-discrimination in employment. Key Responsibilities
  • Use pipe cutting machine, or if unavailable, use beveling machine to cut pipe to the required length.
  • Upon completion of every weld, clean and apply stencil/stamp (3/8" from every weld). Vessel fabrication/welding requires stenciling every three (3) feet of weld length.
  • Communicate with the helper/rigger regarding necessary materials or equipment for each task.
  • Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers.
  • Straighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push/pull methods.
  • Ensure daily submission of accurate oxygen and acetylene bottle counts to offshore management.
  • Ensure all welding activities comply with company policies, class requirements, and regulatory laws.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of consumables to facilitate repair work, modifications, and general fabrication.
  • Perform welding, flame cutting, and associated tasks as required.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, or other approved methods.
  • Ascend/descend stairwells frequently with or without tools and equipment.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Read and understand blueprints and ISOs.
  • Demolish and install handrails and grating on platforms.
  • Verify all measurements and check for square and level before welding.
  • Hang and swing on vertical ropes to/from platform and boat (potential rough seas/wind).
  • Ensure all fabricated items are tagged with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number.
  • Complete and inspect all weld passes.
  • Ensure 100% penetration on all pipe welds, including hydro-welds; structural welds must follow drawings unless otherwise specified.
  • Inspect all equipment (welding machine, leads, flux-core box, grinder, etc.) at the start of every shift.
  • Climb and work from heights as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years offshore experience.
  • Recent offshore experience within the last 4 years.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience welding pipe and/or structural on carbon steel.
  • Ability to layout, fit, install, and assemble according to plans.
  • Familiarity with emergency response/escape and water survival procedures on offshore facilities.
