Primary duties include:

Operate and monitor propulsion systems, including Cummins and Caterpillar main engines (approximately 1,500 horsepower each).

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, generators, hydraulic systems and auxiliary machinery.

Inspect and maintain propulsion components- cooling systems, fuel injectors, turbochargers and exhaust systems.

Monitor engine performance through gauges, alarms and diagnostic tools record operational data in engine room logs.

Conduct oil, fuel and coolant checks.

Oversee fuel transfers (bunkering) and ensure compliance with pollution prevention and safety standards.

Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions to minimize downtime.

Maintain auxiliary equipment such as generators, air compressors, bilge pumps and steering systems.

Ensure environmental compliance ( MARPOL, oil record books, waste disposal procedures).

Coordinate with captain and deck officers on power availability, propulsion performance, and maintenance scheduling.

Keep the engine room clean, organized and ready for inspection at all times.

Maintain engineering logs for vessel.

Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC)

TWIC Badge

US Passport

At least 3 years of experience as a tugboat engineer or similar.


Rotation:

28 Days on duty, 14 days off
