Job description

Managers may work as the engagement lead or under the supervision of Senior Managers, depending on the client engagement. Managers are responsible for coordinating multiple engagements, reviewing work, communicating with clients, training team members, and delivering high-quality tax services.

This role primarily serves agricultural clients, including farming operations, ranches, agribusinesses, family-owned agricultural entities, and related businesses. The Manager should understand agricultural operations and be able to advise clients on tax matters unique to the industry, including farm income averaging, depreciation strategies, equipment purchases, land transactions, entity structures, succession planning, government program payments, and multi-entity operations.

Managers may also have direct clients assigned to them as the Relationship Manager (RM) and serve as a key point of contact for clients on day-to-day tax and accounting matters.

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Reviews mid to high-level business and individual income tax returns.
  • Reviews tax returns for agricultural producers, agribusinesses, farm owners, and related entities.
  • Advises clients on tax planning, compliance, and business-related tax matters.
  • Provides proactive planning related to equipment purchases, depreciation, land acquisitions, entity structures, succession planning, and other agriculture-specific opportunities.
  • Understands agricultural operations, including crop production, livestock operations, land ownership arrangements, and related agribusiness activities.
  • Oversees tax research projects and manages tax engagements within established deadlines.
  • Assists clients with tax implications of government program payments, conservation programs, and other agricultural incentives.
  • Manages client relationships and serves as a key point of contact for day-to-day tax and accounting questions.
  • Reviews, trains, and mentors Senior Associates and Associates.
  • Provides feedback to Senior Managers and Shareholders.
  • Supports business development and growth efforts within the agriculture industry.
  • Utilizes cloud-based technology and other tax software.
  • Performs client billings for services provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business required, a Bachelors in Accounting preferred
  • 7+ years of tax accounting managing staff
  • Licensed CPA or CMA license preferred
  • Prior experience serving agricultural clients, farming operations, ranches, or agribusinesses preferred.
  • Knowledge of agriculture-related tax matters, including depreciation strategies, farm income averaging, government program payments, succession planning, and multi-entity structures preferred.
  • Strong technology, communication, organization, and client relationship skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
