Job description

Description

The Opportunity

RETTEW is seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Engineering Project Manager to lead infrastructure projects that directly support the reliability, safety, and long-term resilience of the communities we serve.

In this role, you'll take ownership of water and wastewater projects from planning through design, permitting, and delivery. You'll manage project scope, schedule, and budget; serve as a trusted client contact; coordinate multidisciplinary teams; and help develop the engineers working alongside you.

You'll have the autonomy to lead your projects while still having access to experienced technical professionals, Project Managers, and leadership when complex challenges arise. As a 100% employee-owned company, successful project delivery, strong client relationships, and sustainable growth directly contribute to the company we collectively own.

What You'll Do

As a Water/Wastewater Engineering Project Manager, you will:

  • Manage drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects from planning and design through permitting, bidding, and delivery.
  • Take responsibility for project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations.
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for municipal, authority, and other water/wastewater clients.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineering, environmental, permitting, and field professionals.
  • Support the planning and design of drinking water and wastewater systems, including treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, pump stations, system upgrades, rehabilitation, and related infrastructure.
  • Develop and review engineering plans, technical reports, specifications, permit applications, and other project deliverables.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure and help clients develop practical solutions to improve system performance, reliability, and long-term needs.
  • Coordinate permitting and regulatory requirements with clients and applicable agencies.
  • Lead or support construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, contractor coordination, and resolution of field issues.
  • Identify project risks, changing conditions, and scope needs early and work with clients and internal teams to develop solutions.
  • Mentor and provide project guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Support proposals, project pursuits, and opportunities to expand relationships with existing clients in partnership with RETTEW's Business Development resources.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with Pennsylvania licensure or eligibility to obtain Pennsylvania licensure through reciprocity.
  • Professional experience delivering drinking water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated project-management experience with responsibility for scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience coordinating engineering teams and project deliverables.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills and experience building productive professional relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining quality and client expectations.

Preferred

  • Experience working in an engineering consulting environment.
  • Experience managing municipal or authority water/wastewater projects.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania water/wastewater regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Experience with treatment, distribution, collection, pumping, rehabilitation, or other municipal water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Experience mentoring or providing project leadership to engineers and technical staff.
  • Experience contributing to proposals, client development, or expansion of existing client relationships.

Why RETTEW

At RETTEW, Project Managers have the opportunity to own their projects-not simply support them.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead meaningful infrastructure projects that directly affect the communities our clients serve.
  • Build lasting relationships with municipal and water/wastewater clients.
  • Work across a variety of project types rather than being limited to one narrow area of water/wastewater engineering.
  • Develop engineers and emerging project leaders while continuing to grow your own leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with experienced technical professionals across disciplines when projects require additional expertise.
  • Partner with Business Development resources to grow client relationships without carrying that responsibility alone.
  • Continue developing toward larger project, client, and leadership responsibilities.
  • Work in a flexible hybrid environment that supports both collaboration and focused work.

Employee Ownership

RETTEW is a 100% employee-owned company. Through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), eligible employees have the opportunity to build ownership in the company and share in the long-term value we create together.

Our employee-owners are encouraged to think beyond individual assignments-to build strong client relationships, deliver excellent work, improve how we operate, and contribute to the long-term success of the company.

Work Environment

  • Workplace Designation: Hybrid
  • Locations: Lancaster, PA | State College, PA |Mechanicsburg, PA

This role combines in-office collaboration, remote work, client interaction, and project-related travel as needed. Collaboration with professionals across RETTEW offices and disciplines is expected to support project delivery, client needs, and resource sharing.
