HDR is looking for an Office Principal for our Mobile office. This individual will be responsible for managing and supporting the growth of our Mobile office and will report to the Area Manager. A strong understanding of the engineering design and construction management business is required. Technical areas of knowledge include site/civil, transportation, water and wastewater, natural resources, solid waste, power/energy, and industrial. Responsibilities will include business development, client management, project delivery, staff management, and office management. This individual needs to be the "face of HDR in the Mobile marketplace" and therefore, have a solid track record in the marketplace to understand market drivers, community groups' activities, and position HDR for success. They will be instrumental to ensuring that local business development activities are tailored to achieve local growth objectives and client satisfaction.

Office and staff management skills are paramount to ensure that HDR is achieving desired business metrics including sales, utilization, earnings, and profit.  As such, this individual will also lead by example in following HDR's operational policies and procedures, such as strong adherence to our quality and safety programs. In addition to having high business acumen, this individual must be highly skilled in qualitative/human elements such as providing high morale, energy, and a sense of excitement to daily job activities.

In the role of Office Principal, we'll count on you to: 

  • Serve as a company representative in business and the community.
  • Create a positive, energetic work environment that promotes high morale and employee engagement in the office.
  • Actively engage in community activities and organizations in the local community to ensure HDR is recognized as an active community participant.
  • Establish and monitor office procedures, processes and adherence to corporate and company policies and quality control procedures.
  • Own the office planning guide process and take actions necessary to meet operational goals within office sizing, seating and space.
  • Communicate, implement, monitor and enforce company policies within the office.
  • Participate in Area quality assurance of project quality control procedures and HDR's Quality Management System implementation.
  • Support activities of personnel within each business group to provide high-quality services and to achieve or exceed plan results.
  • Support the implementation of the strategic plan and initiatives set forth by operational and business group leadership.
  • Work cooperatively with and inform regional and area operations managers, business group directors and marketing managers in client development, marketing, key staffing needs and project delivery.
  • Support hiring, performance evaluation, staff development, training and recognition.
  • As appropriate, maintain key client relationships and serve as Project Principal, Project Manager, or other critical project delivery roles.
  • Perform other duties as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintains a professional Engineering or Architecture registration and has extensive related technical management experience
  • 10 years of related experience
  • Local candidate preferred

  • Outstanding leadership, communication and team-building skills
  • Experienced in management and development of diverse teams
