What is a clam?

Clams are a type of shellfish belonging to the bivalve mollusk family, which means they have two hinged shells. They live in both freshwater and saltwater environments, typically buried in sand or mud. Clams are commonly harvested for food and are known for their mild, slightly sweet flavor. In addition to their culinary uses, clams play an important role in aquatic ecosystems by filtering water and providing habitat for other species.
