The Civil Engineer I is responsible for performing basic civil engineering tasks for electrical construction projects under the direct supervision of the direct supervision of an upper level Engineer, Senior Civil Designer, or Engineering Team Leader as assigned by the Corporate Engineering Manger to ensure the safety and quality of the projects on which they are working. This role will work closely with other cross-functional teams (preconstruction, engineering, procurement, construction, and manufacturing production teams) within the organization. The ideal candidate must have the ability to apply principles of mechanics, mathematics, physics, material science, 3D concepts to creative problem-solving and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering.

Experience: Prefer Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering.

Travel: 0-25%

Work Schedule: Typical work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • Performs detailed calculations to compute and establish construction standards and specifications.
  • Plans layout of construction projects.
  • Learns and develops discipline best practices, technical knowledge, and current industry design standards.
  • Focus on designing civil engineering documents for clean energy ground mounted electric vehicle charging infrastructure and/or ground mounted photovoltaic projects. Additional programs may include large scale utility site improvements for both new and existing sites throughout North America.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Survey Coordination

  • Contracts local surveyors for topographic and GPR surveys.
  • Utilizes familiarity with easement documentation, including zoning and permitting requirements.
  • Collects information from utility structure logs.
  • Coordinates soil samples.
  • Understands and documents setbacks.

Parking Lot Designs

  • Creates or assists in the development of engineering plan documents using Autodesk Revit, AutoCad, or Microstation including coordination with designers including redlines, markups, and progress sets.
  • Develop initial site feasibility studies.
  • Storm water plans and calculations.
  • Parking space requirements.
  • ADA/Accessible parking space design.
  • Grading drainage, erosion control plans including details and sections meeting all state and jurisdiction having authority standards.
  • Familiarity with and creation of SWPPPs as necessary for larger project sites.

Documentation/QA-QC

  • Works with team to develop detailed site plans to meet local municipal codes.
  • Researches and obtains building permit requirements as they pertain to parking lot design and modifications.
  • Writes engineering Request For Proposal and coordinates with engineering contractors to deliver complete permit drawing sets.
  • Prepares and studies technical drawings/specifications to ensure that designs/installations conform to standards & customer requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
