JOB SUMMARYThe Accounting Manager is a highly skilled, management position that leads the City's Accounting division. Under the general direction of the Assistant Finance Director, the Accounting Manager manages, trains and performs financial activities and accounting functions (including payroll and accounts payable), coordinates the annual external financial audit and prepares the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree in accounting and five years of accounting experience. Two years of supervisory experience. Five years of experience with finance, accounting and/or financial reporting.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting, including Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR).Knowledge of principals of budgeting, internal control and banking/treasury/cash management.Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office software.Knowledge of financial and ACFR preparation software.Skill in problem solving, communication (written and oral), leadership and analyzing. Ability to read and interpret governmental accounting principles, standards and pronouncements, as well as federal, state, and local legislations, regulations and requirements impacting governmental accounting and payroll.Ability to manage and supervise staff to ensure compliance with City policies and federal and state laws and regulations.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is sedentary and requires the ability to up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: fingering, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity and walking.BENEFITSThe City of Conroe offers great benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement plan, employee assistance program, paid time off and free membership at the City's pool and recreation center facilities.
