What are Church Creative Directors?

Church Creative Directors are professionals responsible for overseeing and developing the visual, artistic, and media-related aspects of a church’s services and events. They lead creative teams that produce graphics, videos, stage designs, and worship experiences, ensuring that all elements align with the church’s vision and message. Their role often involves collaborating with pastors, worship leaders, and technical staff to create engaging and meaningful environments that enhance worship and communication. Church Creative Directors also manage branding, social media presence, and promotional materials to connect with the congregation and broader community.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Church Creative Director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Church Creative Director, you need strong skills in visual design, multimedia production, and project management, usually supported by experience in creative arts, communications, or a related field. Proficiency with tools like Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, and church presentation systems such as ProPresenter is commonly required. Exceptional collaboration, leadership, and communication skills help foster teamwork and align creative vision with ministry goals. These abilities ensure engaging worship experiences, consistent branding, and effective outreach to the congregation and wider community.

How does a Church Creative Director typically collaborate with other ministry leaders and teams?

A Church Creative Director works closely with pastors, worship leaders, and communications staff to ensure that all creative elements—such as visuals, videos, and stage design—align with the church's mission and sermon themes. Regular meetings and brainstorming sessions are common, allowing for open dialogue and feedback between creative and ministry teams. This collaborative approach helps produce cohesive worship experiences and effective outreach materials, while also fostering a supportive and innovative work environment.

Job description

At Elevation Church, we look to link arms in ministry with those who are passionate about stepping into their God-given calling. While we're a staff from all different backgrounds and walks of life, our mission is the same - to reach people with the Gospel. We're grounded in scripture and guided by our values, so check out our website (www.elevationchurch.org) to be sure you're aligned before you step into the application process with us, particularly paying attention to our Beliefs and our Code.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create high-quality designs for weekend experiences, sermon series, digital content, social media, and special projects
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director, writers, and programming teams to develop strong visual concepts that communicate messages clearly and creatively
  • Help lead the design direction for campaigns and series-contributing to concept development, look and feel, and execution
  • Maintain and elevate the visual standards of the church's brand across all platforms
  • Execute designs across multiple formats (broadcast, social, web, print, environmental) with excellence and consistency
  • Provide creative feedback and direction to other designers and freelancers
  • Partner with video teams, animators, and other creatives to bring cohesive, multi-platform experiences to life
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Prepare and deliver final files for production across various media
MUST-HAVES
  • Active participation in a church (we look for a lifestyle of inviting people to church, volunteering, generosity, and prioritizing community)
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating a high level of design, typography, and layout expertise
  • Proven ability to lead design projects and contribute to creative direction
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Strong understanding of branding, visual systems, and storytelling through design
  • Ability to operate with both creative vision and executional excellence
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to excellence
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
NICE-TO-HAVES
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment or ministry setting
  • Knowledge of motion design or animation
  • Experience designing for broadcast or large-scale environments
  • Familiarity with social media trends and digital-first design strategies
  • Experience working with AI-assisted design tools
DAY-TO-DAY
  • We're a Sunday-Thursday work environment. Monday-Thursday, we're in the office (8:30AM - 5PM); on Sunday, we're supporting the weekend worship experience either directly in our roles or by choosing a weekly serving opportunity at one of our Elevation Church campuses.
  • There's a lot to accomplish each week, so we're pretty fast-paced. We're also not afraid to pivot a strategy or project quickly to meet the needs of the weekend - adaptability is a key competence for us.
  • Yes, we work hard. But we're good at playing hard, too. We're a creative staff, so there's no shortage of activities around our offices to have some fun!
  • You can't help but grow on our staff. You'll be around some incredible people. Professional development opportunities will be all around you, both in structured and unstructured ways.
  • We expect you to be disciplined in your spiritual practices - be in your Bible, spend time with the Lord in prayer, meditate on and apply the weekly sermon.
  • Bring your full self to every project, conversation, and initiative at hand.

  • 403b with 4% match
