Job description

Pay: $22.00–$27.00 per hour
Employment type: Temporary, seasonal, full-time, non-exempt
Season: Mid/late September through late January or early February

About the Position

Los Angeles Christmas Light Installers is hiring 10–15 seasonal employees to install and remove holiday lighting and décor for commercial, municipal and high-end residential clients throughout Southern California.

No professional Christmas-light installation experience is required. We provide approximately five days of safety and installation training. We are looking for dependable, safety-minded employees who are willing to learn, work hard and contribute to a team.

This is physically demanding seasonal work that includes long shifts, night work, travel assignments, ladders, aerial lifts and work at significant heights.

Schedule and Availability

Training begins in mid-to-late September, with installations beginning in late September or early October.

Employees should expect:

  • Approximately five workdays per week during the first several weeks
  • Approximately six workdays per week beginning in early-to-mid November
  • Shifts generally lasting eight to ten hours
  • Required night shifts
  • Required out-of-town travel assignments lasting approximately five to seven days
  • Continued work through the removal season, ending in late January or early February

Transportation, lodging and per diem payments are provided for required travel assignments. Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable California law.

This position does not provide:

  • Part-time employment
  • Permanent employment beyond the holiday season
  • Day-only or night-only scheduling
  • Electrical apprenticeship hours

Primary Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and remove Christmas lights and holiday décor
  • Install lighting on roofs and structures approximately 10 to 50 feet high
  • Wrap and decorate trees approximately 10 to 20 feet tall
  • Install wreaths ranging from approximately 24 inches to 10 feet
  • Install garland on buildings, railings, columns and other structures
  • Carry, set up and climb ladders ranging from approximately 8 to 40 feet
  • Operate aerial equipment after completing company training
  • Follow all company safety procedures
  • Maintain an organized and safe jobsite
  • Identify and resolve unexpected installation issues
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers and clients
  • Report to work on time and prepared for each assigned shift

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Reliable transportation to the designated reporting location
  • Availability to work five to six days per week throughout the season
  • Availability for eight- to ten-hour shifts, including nights
  • Availability for required travel assignments
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
  • Willingness and ability to learn new installation techniques
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including climbing ladders, working at heights, bending, reaching and carrying installation materials and equipment

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is helpful but not required:

  • Professional Christmas-light or holiday-décor installation
  • Operation of aerial lifts or similar equipment
  • Professional tree-climbing equipment and techniques
  • Basic understanding of electrical concepts, including watts and amps
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for positions involving company vehicles

Additional compensation may be available for qualified professional tree climbers and employees who take on specialized responsibilities.

Compensation

Starting pay is $22.00–$27.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience, demonstrated skills and qualifications.

Employees may be considered for pay increases as they develop additional skills and take on greater responsibilities during the season. Pay increases are based on demonstrated performance and are not automatic.
