Job description

To support and maintain the smooth operations of the food pantry according to the policies and procedures. To serve as support staffing for the Corps Family Emergency Service Worker in relation to the food pantry.


  • Oversee food delivery and verify the delivery bill for contents of delivery.
  • Stock and shelve all food items adhering to all codes applicable to food storage. (Six inches off floor, eighteen inches from ceiling, thermometers in refrigerator and freezer, rotate food items to bring older food up front, keep pantry clean at all times, etc.)
  • Intake all new clients for their need to participate in the program. Verifying income, residence, children and adults living in the household.
  • Ongoing re-verification for Food Pantry clients annually at which time new verifications papers must be collected.
  • Maintain regular Food Pantry hours daily from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM - Monday through Thursday.
  • Additionally, Emergency groceries (outside of pantry hours) should be handled on a crisis basis. No client should be turned away if they are in a crisis in need of food.
  • Record Food Pantry clients on Friday of each week. At the end of the month, tally all Food Pantry client statistics and submit statistics to Corps Family Emergency Worker.
  • Greet and receive all clients and visitors in a pleasant manner; arrange for their comfort and/or referral to proper staff and program areas.
  • Keep your work area clean and tidy. Report any unsafe conditions to the Corps Officers
  • Assist with unloading weekly food delivery.
  • Assist with cleaning duties within the pantry area to maintain proper standards for operation.
  • Ensure shelves and refrigerator/freezer are stocked at the end of each day.
  • Pick up donated food and baked goods as needed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Food Pantry and the Client Choice waiting area.
  • Maintain current and accurate records on services provided.
  • This position will provide assistance to the family Services Department and will adhere to The Salvation Army policy regarding confidentiality.
  • Participate in and support the implementation of special activities and events for the Corps as requested by the Corps Officer.
  • Assist with the administration of seasonal programs (Christmas, Kettles, Back-to-School, Summer Youth).
  • Assist with the registrations for all holiday activities, meals and toy programs.

  • High School Diploma/GED with one to two years related experience
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Basic word and data entry skills
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License in good standing
  • Ability to drive 12 passenger van and pass the required Salvation Army driving test

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Obtain serve safe certification within 60 days.
  • Attend and complete all Foodbank and Salvation Army related trainings.
