ROLE DESCRIPTION
Communications Coordinator
This position offices in-person, on campus
ROLE SUMMARY

The Communications Coordinator ensures that Valor Christian High Schoolโ€™s Christ-centered mission, vision, and values are communicated clearly and consistently across all platforms. Key responsibilities include maintaining and ensuring proper usage of the schoolโ€™s editorial style guide, creating and editing written content, and producing the Valor Weekly newsletter by curating campus news and student stories. The role oversees all school newsletters to ensure consistent voice and adherence to style standards, manages website content to keep messaging accurate and compelling, and assists leadership in the development of the schoolโ€™s annual content strategy. This position also supports the Head of School and other leaders by crafting key messages and communication plans for their areas. Additional responsibilities include managing major communication projects from concept to completion, stewarding the annual communications operating plan and budget, maintaining archives of creative assets, contributing to crisis communications, and tracking the performance of email and other communication types.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Skillfully edit and create written pieces that convey the vision, mission and value of the school in a consistent voice, tone and style
  • Aids and supports the development of the schoolโ€™s annual content strategy in conjunction with the schoolwide communications calendar, ensuring consistent implementation by all internal stakeholders across all platforms
  • Serve and support the Head of School, Cabinet team and other leaders of the school to develop their overall communication plan and key messages in each of their areas
  • Oversee the production of the Valor Weekly by cultivating and curating news from around the campus while striking the right balance between featured stories, general updates, and calendar events
  • Provides initial editorial review for all newsletters, social media posts, and other communications distributed by the school, ensuring consistent adherence to Valor Christianโ€™s Editorial Style Guide across all platforms
  • Oversee the schoolโ€™s website content, ensuring accurate, Christ-centered, compelling messaging in all areas of the school, and that stories and blogs are regularly shared across various platforms
  • In collaboration with the Marketing Manager, steward the annual communications operating plan and ensure the appropriate financial resources are budgeted to support the various goals and objectives
  • Assists in reviewing, coordinating, and posting on the schoolโ€™s primary, institution-wide social media accounts, while also supporting the social media efforts of specific departments and programs
  • Manage regular and special projects from concept to completion, with attention to marketing goals, deliverables, promotional schedules, deadlines, stakeholder review, budgets, vendor production, and final delivery

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate archives of creative assets and completed projects
  • Serve as a member of the Crisis Management Team to assist with communications as requested
  • Ensure email list accuracy and track email and other communication engagement rates to gain actionable insights and improve performance over time
  • Apply basic knowledge of project management techniques
  • Continuously research and apply relevant communication trends, including advancements in technology, that enhance the effectiveness and reach of organizational messaging

The Marketing and Communications team becomes known school-wide for creativity, collaboration, and high-quality work. Core initiatives are reliably completed on time, on brand, and within budget. Annual operating goals are achieved through disciplined planning, resource stewardship, and strong project management. Ultimately, this role produces a professional communication environment that elevates the schoolโ€™s reputation and advances its mission.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Education and Experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in communications or a relevant field
  • 7+ years of experience in communications, marketing or related experience in a similar field
  • Experience in the nonprofit and/or educational sector is preferred

Skills and Software

  • Excellent relational skills in team management and collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Quick, self-motivated, and ability to learn new software and systems
  • Proficiency with Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Google Suite (Mail, Docs, Drive, Calendar), social media channels, website content management systems and customer data systems
  • Preferably some familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Basecamp 3, WordPress, Shopify, social media management tools such as Buffer or HootSuite, and advertising via Facebook, Instagram and Google AdWords

Preferred Certifications and/or Course Completions

One or more of the following within the past 3 years:

  • HubSpot: Email Marketing Certification, Content Marketing Certification, CMS for Marketers and Communications
  • Mailchimp Academy Email Marketing Certificate, Automations and Audience Management
  • Google Workspace Productivity Certification
  • Any comparable online courses or professional seminars in communication effectiveness and/or social media management
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The same basic physical demands described here are the same for all employees to successfully perform the essential functions of their jobs. Employees must periodically lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and could occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral/depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics are varied and include classroom, office, and outdoor events while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is also varied.

SUPERVISOR: Marketing Manager

PAY RANGE: $58,000 - $65,000/year

START DATE: June 2, 2026
