Compensation Range: $27.00 - $33.00 USD Hourly

What You Will Be Doing:
The full-time, in-person, Paralegal supports the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in matters including contracting, litigation, real estate, and risk management.
Essential Functions

  • Performs comprehensive first-level review of various matters submitted to the Legal Department in accordance with established protocols and attorney guidance.
  • Gathers, organizes, summarizes, indexes, any missing information from various sources.
  • Drafts agreements and supporting exhibits from standard templates.
  • Monitors legal matter lifecycle within the Legal Department, and communicates with attorneys concerning action required in response to notifications and requests received.
  • Maintains a library of pre-approved form documents, clauses, templates, and historical documents.
  • Enters information into appropriate databases or other document management systems.
  • Manages timely handling of service of process, filing deadlines and documents received.
  • Perform fact checking, gather documents, research, and respond to subpoenas, record requests, and various inquiries from internal and external sources.
  • Assists in drafting and implementing document preservation holds.
  • Assists with requests for production including any eDiscovery requests.
  • Assists with management and oversight of routine wage garnishment, bankruptcy and collection matters.
  • Performs preliminary review of estate documentation in accordance with established protocols and attorney guidance.
  • Under supervision of counsel, communicate with trustees, executors and attorneys regarding estate and trust administration status where legal action is required.
  • Manages transactional due diligence and completion of all post-closing matters.
  • Organizes and maintains Institute real estate files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Capacity to effectively manage details and time sensitive assignments; ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints; strong planning and project management skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Technological competency, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.), Adobe, document and contract management, and redlining application programs.
  • Able to recognize and anticipate procedural or other issues and proactively implement solutions.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, use discretion and demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Able to work in the US legally without sponsorship.

Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of law firm or in-house experience
  • Values being in a key support role to the Legal Department's attorneys.

This is a full-time position that primarily works from our downtown Chicago location. Hours typically fall between Monday and Friday, 8:00am- 4:30pm.
No travel is expected for this position.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
