Job description

Description

The Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City, MO is hiring four Choir Section Leaders. The four singers chosen will assist the volunteer choir members and congregation in providing music for liturgies. The adult choir sings at 10:00 am Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, as well as Holy Days, and Diocesan liturgies. The choir rehearses for 90 minutes, beginning at 7:00 pm on Wednesdays. Section leaders may also be asked to assist the Schola, which sings on the 1st Sunday of the month (10:00 am) and the volunteer quartet on the 3rd Sunday of the month (10:00 am). 

Pay rate is $50/hour. Each rehearsal and mass call lasts 1 hours.


Responsibilities:

  • Be present and prepared at all rehearsals and masses at which the choir sings, especially Christmas and Holy Week Masses
  • Lead possible sectional rehearsals when requested by the director of music
  • Sing solos in choral anthems when requested by the director of music
  • Cantor for high holy days and diocesan liturgies when requested by the director of music
  • Cantor for weddings and funerals when requested by the director of music

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of formal vocal instruction. Singers who are enrolled in or have completed a degree in vocal performance or music education with voice as their principal instrument are preferred
  • Professional dress and attitude
  • Preferred candidates will be practicing Catholics in good standing
  • Must pass background check and VIRTUS "Protecting God's Children" training (1 hour online course)
