Job description

Overview

This role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and technical operation of the QC Laboratory located at Mays packaging facility. The technician will conduct preliminary, in-process, and final analysis of materials that are used at the production facility.  The technician must be familiar with all aspects of the sampling and testing process and capable of working under minimal supervision. All laboratory activities are to be conducted according to good laboratory practices (GLP) and shall comply with established standards of operation.

 Responsibilities  

  • Conduct preliminary, in-process, and final analysis of materials used at the production facility, and conduct pre-acceptance inspections of incoming materials.
  • Obtain samples of products and perform environmental monitoring sampling as required.
  • Maintain laboratory procedure documentation that supports all analytical activity performed by the lab.
  • Perform calculations to determine the amount of raw materials required for production batches and assigns lot numbers to those batches.
  • Perform cleaning and sanitation verification checks (including both equipment and chemical concentration checks).
  • Operate, repair and perform maintenance of laboratory instrumentation utilized within the lab 
  • Assist the QC Supervisor in organizing and storing retain samples, and the disposal of laboratory waste and communicate stock items and orders for lab supplies 
  • Assist Production Manager with the Customer Specification Review and Supplier Change Notices processes, and batch documentation reviews
  • Assist with Customer, Regulatory, and Supplier Audits

Skills 

  • Working knowledge of Food Safety, and Food Quality standards, Haz-Mat, NACD, and FDA requirements.
  • 2+ years of experience required in Quality with an emphasis in the Food industry preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving techniques  
  • Most possess good time management skills and be able to plan and execute daily functions with minimal supervision. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and attention to detail skills required  
  • Ability to learn and utilize company ERP platform (Chempax/Datacor) 

Education and Experience  

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university in a chemistry, biology or related technical field, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills required: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products 
  • 1+ years' experience working in warehouse or chemical production environment.
  • 1+ years' experience handling chemical/hazardous materials.
  • Must be familiar with all aspects of the sampling and testing process 
  • Working knowledge of Food Safety, and Food Quality standards, Haz-Mat, NACD, and FDA requirements experience preferred.   Â
