Job description

Position: Community Support Specialist / Day Activities Staff

Department: Developmental Disabilities Program Supported Employment/Community Options – New Castle County DE

Availability of Position: Immediately available in New Castle County area

Schedule: Full Time Monday – Friday (8am-4pm)

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Program Coordinator for the location

Salary and Grade: $20.00 per hour; 72-Non-Exempt

 Position Overview:  This position is a non-exempt position with the responsibility for supporting persons with developmental disabilities attending our Day program in New Castle County.


Description of Position:   Assists individuals with developmental disabilities in becoming more independent and engaged in activities in the local community.  Community day activities include recreational, socialization, volunteering, and employment opportunities. The Day Activities Staff implements the organization's mission and value by supporting individuals to make positive changes in their lives. 


Requirements:    

  • AA Degree in related field or 2 years of experience working with special needs population.  Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record, and basic computer skills required.  Experience should include support to people with arrange of Developmental Disabilities. Position requires a positive attitude toward the abilities of individuals with disabilities, good communication skills and the desire to engage people in activities that meet their interests and broaden their horizons. You must be able to successfully complete clearance required by the Joseph R. Biden II and the Child Protection Act.  Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Child Protection Clearances DE.C 1142 & 1146, Chapter 11 of Title 16 of the Delaware Code, requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: DE Child Abuse History Clearance, DE State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check, Drug Testing and TB Screenings.
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
