**This is an onsite position located in Gulfport, MS**
The HIM Specialist performs and coordinates all HIM related electronic functions to include chart analysis for deficiency, release of medical information, image scanning and import, export and posting of medical documentation.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for medical documents and chart analysis
    • Performs medical record analysis to verify accuracy of patient demographic and patient account information
    • Produces and distributes Transfer of Care documents and Provider letters appropriately
    • Responsible for abstracting and analysis for chart deficiencies and auditing provider deficiency list
    • Monitors Pools, Proxies and Message centers and clarifies declined deficiencies
    • Performs document imaging of medical records
    • Assists with the documentation, notification and reactivation within the Suspension Process
  • Processes requests for medical information and facilitates release of information
    • Processes requests for medical information adhering to applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations related to patient confidentiality
    • Obtains and informs patient of consent for release information
    • Obtains requested medical records from external facilities
    • Documents and maintains complete and accurate information related to requests and release of medical information in accordance with HIPAA
    • Responsible for accurate preparation of birth, death, and fetal demise certificates and related reports
  • Responsible for maintenance and operation of medical record systems
    • Reviews records from foreign systems for medical record completion prior to importing into Kofax Content 360
    • Performs quality control checks to separate different patient records/document types
    • Imports authorizations and records from "L" Drive to Cerner and process requests from Remote ROI Task Queue
    • Validates requests and releases protected health information from multiple sources per state federal, and other regulatory agency guidelines
    • Processes authorizations via Report Request Application and send to Rightfax folder for completion of request and upload requests from Rightfax to Healthsource

Education:
  • High School or GED
Experience:
  • 2 years of data entry or clerical experience in a healthcare setting
Skills:
  • Computer-based applications including Microsoft Excel/Word and webmail
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Problem solving and decision making
