The Solutions Engineer is the primary technical resource for the field sales force. The Solutions Engineer is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our products. This role will be part of the Global Solution Engineering team and will support ECAM Global and ECAM Commercial Canada, covering Central and Western Canada (Ontario, West Coast and Alberta), and requires approximately 15-25% travel for site visits and client engagement.

What Your Days Will Look Like

Assist the sales team (Account Executives, and Major Accounts) in the completion of RFP/RFQ bids and providing system designs and quotes for security solutions.

Perform discovery, analysis of business needs and definition of client requirements in conjunction with the Account Executives to determine technical requirements for project work, including designing and quoting integrated security systems (video surveillance, access control, intrusion and monitoring solutions).

Conduct site visits to assess customer environments and develop system designs and solutions for physical electronic security systems.

Work with the Solutions Engineering staff to convey requirements to the client and provide insight into the technical options available. The role will also aid in designing solutions across a wide variety of security technologies.

Work closely with the Account Executives to determine requirements, counts, and configuration of systems in order to provide cost effective and comprehensive solutions.

Confirm that products meet the prospect's requirements and assist sales in technical qualification. Throughout the proposal process, the Solutions Engineer will articulate and demonstrate solutions and position products relative to competition.

Utilize system design tools as needed to design system layouts.

Review sales quotes and confirm equipment lists are correct.

Provide pre-sales support to customers and communicate with clients' technical team as needed.

Assist in creating and implementing proof of concepts for clients.

Assist account executives by answering technical questions and making technical presentations.

Collaborate with global teams to align on standards and scalable solutions.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

A post-secondary degree/diploma in electronics or equivalent college technical degree

5-7 years of experience as a Solutions Engineer or similar role in a security integrator environment

8+ years of experience in technical products and services in the security industry

A strong and thorough knowledge in the Security industry - CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion, PLC's, Relays, Gate Control, Fence Detection, Network Infrastructure, Intercoms, Etc. Industry association, participation and/or leadership preferred.

  • Advanced communication skills both written, verbal and presentations to senior executive levels.
  • Proficient user level of computer systems: Microsoft Office, Excel, Visio and documentation control systems
  • Basic to intermediate user level of CAD


This role will require a deep understanding of the following brands and systems:


Intrusion: DSC, DMP

Video: Hanwha, Avigilon, Axis, Milestone, Genetec, Geovision

Access Control: Kantech, Avigilon, Gallagher, ICT, Genetec

Specialty: Sunflower Labs, Alarm.com, Skydio, Fog Bandit, SpotterRF, HALO, Automatic Systems

Working Conditions:

  • Based on Location (Canada) - Preferred location close to our office hubs: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary
  • Travel required (20-30%) for site visits and client meetings
  • Flexibility in the work schedule may be required depending upon client needs
