Position Summary:

Leads cross-functional change by aligning people, processes and technology to improve business performance and drive innovative solutions, particularly those related to transportation safety and compliance across Canada. Plans, coordinates, and leads key initiatives including project development and strategic execution. Provides business support, serving as a technology and business advocate. Facilitates development of clear cases for change, desired outcomes, accurate scope and associated financial analysis. This position requires a high level of written and English proficiency. This role requires frequent travel to our Canadian Distribution Centres.

Essential Functions:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Define and execute the long-term safety roadmap for Transportation across all Canadian Divisions

  • Act as the internal consultant on emerging regulatory trends and safety technologies.

  • Drive "Performance Consistency" across all divisions to ensure the GFS brand maintains a unified safety posture.

Regulatory & Governmental Compliance

  • Legal Oversight: Serve as the subject matter expert for all federal, provincial and local transportation regulations.

  • Asset Compliance: Support and provide guidance around asset compliance (LCV permit compliance, etc.) to divisional fleet managers

  • Audit Readiness: Maintain a state of constant audit-readiness for all government compliance reviews and inspections.

Consultation & Specialized Training

  • Provide expert safety and compliance consultation to divisional leadership

  • Develop and deploy standardized safety training

  • Performs other health and safety compliance duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Transportation Safety & Compliance: Deep understanding of relevant safety standards, including Canadian Federal and Provincial Motor Carrier legislation, National Safety Code (NSC) standards, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations.

  • Safety Management Systems (SMS): Expertise in implementing or improving SMS, including risk assessment, hazard identification, and compliance auditing.

  • Operational Safety Protocols: Knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) rules, vehicle maintenance standards, and cargo securement requirements.

  • Technology Application: Proficiency in telematics and compliance tools, specifically the samsara telematics software.

  • Communication: reading (standard and technical), writing (business, technical), speaking (basic, conversational, public speaking), creating presentations and conducting training.

  • Human Relations: ability to motivate, collaborate, successfully interact and coach others while balancing results with relationships; lead people without having direct responsibility.

  • Self Management: self-directed, motivated, ability to prioritize and manage fluctuations in workload and changes in priority, comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Understanding of Technology: understanding of technology, systems and applications and how they can improve business performance.

  • Facilitating Groups: effectively leads group discussions, makes progress and keeps groups focused; encourages diverse points of view and active participation; comes prepared to meetings; and plans for follow up and action items.

Resume du poste :

Diriger le changement transversal en alignant les personnes, les processus et les technologies afin d'ameliorer la performance globale de l'entreprise et de stimuler l'innovation, particulierement en ce qui concerne la securite du transport et la conformite a travers le Canada. Planifier, coordonner et mener les initiatives cles, y compris le developpement de projets et l'execution strategique. Fournir un soutien operationnel en agissant a titre de promoteur des technologies et des affaires. Faciliter l'elaboration d'arguments clairs en faveur du changement, la definition des resultats souhaites, la precision de la portee des projets et l'analyse financiere connexe. Ce poste exige un niveau eleve de competence a l'ecrit ainsi qu'une excellente maitrise de l'anglais. Ce role necessite des deplacements frequents vers nos centres de distribution canadiens.

Principales taches

Vision et leadership strategique

  • Definir et executer la feuille de route a long terme en matiere de securite pour le secteur du transport dans toutes les divisions canadiennes.

  • Agir a titre de consultant interne sur les tendances reglementaires emergentes et les technologies liees a la securite.

  • Favoriser la coherence des performances dans toutes les divisions afin de s'assurer que la marque GFS maintienne une approche unifiee en matiere de securite.

Conformite reglementaire et gouvernementale

  • Surveillance juridique : Agir en tant qu'expert en la matiere pour toutes les reglementations federales, provinciales et locales relatives au transport.

  • Conformite des actifs : Soutenir et guider les gestionnaires de flotte divisionnaires concernant la conformite des actifs (permis de trains routiers, etc.).

  • Preparation aux audits : Maintenir un etat de preparation permanent pour tous les examens de conformite et inspections du gouvernement.

Consultation et formation specialisee

  • Fournir des conseils d'expert en matiere de securite et de conformite a la direction des divisions.

  • Developper et deployer des formations standardisees sur la securite.

  • Effectuer toute autre tache liee a la conformite de la sante et de la securite, selon les besoins.

Experience et competences

  • Securite du transport et conformite : Comprehension approfondie des normes de securite pertinentes, y compris les lois federales et provinciales canadiennes sur les transporteurs routiers, les normes du Code national de securite (CNS) et les reglements sur le transport des marchandises dangereuses (TMD).

  • Systemes de gestion de la securite (SGS) : Expertise dans l'implantation ou l'amelioration des SGS, y compris l'evaluation des risques, l'identification des dangers et les audits de conformite.

  • Protocoles de securite operationnelle : Connaissance des regles relatives aux heures de service (HOS), des normes d'entretien des vehicules et des exigences en matiere d'arrimage des cargaisons.
