Opportunity:
RN - CVOR
Job Details:
• Start times for RN: 5:00 AM - 6:30 AM; Tech/Surgical Assist: 5:30 AM - 6:30 AM; Anesthesia Tech: 5:30 AM
• Weekend rotation is on-call only
• On-call responsibilities include once per month weekend 24-hour call Saturday/Sunday 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM, and end of shift call up to once per week with a 30-minute response time
• Holidays are on-call only, as needed
• Staff cannot work more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts per fatigue policy
• Average of 10 cases per day
• 1:1 patient ratio
• Surgical team always includes 2 RNs per case (Circulator and Med RN) - travelers will only circulate
• Patient types include cardio and thoracic surgeries: CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic cases (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and Fem-Pop bypass
• Minimum 2 years of experience required for RN, ORT, and Surgical Assist roles; 1 year required for Anesthesia Tech
• First-time travelers are not recommended for this position
• Strong CVOR background required across all specialties with ability to work independently with minimal guidance
• Experience in a fast-paced environment required
• Anesthesia Tech must be able to operate machines for blood gases, TEEs, and ultrasounds
• Required certifications for RN: BLS
• Required certifications for ORT: BLS, graduation from accredited school (required), CST (preferred)
• Required certifications for Surgical Assist: BLS, graduation from accredited school (required), CSFA (preferred)
• Required certifications for Anesthesia Tech: BLS
• Charting system and equipment used: EPIC (required for RN, not required for Anesthesia Tech), Alaris, Pyxis, and DaVinci XI
• RNs do not float; Anesthesia Tech will float between CVOR, Main OR, and Cath Lab
• 2-week orientation provided
• Scrubs are provided
• Must document pain level before and after administering pain medications in accordance with facility pain management protocols
• Free parking available on site
Facility:
This facility is a large 938-bed hospital designated as a Level III Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and holds Magnet Designation for nursing excellence. The CVOR unit consists of 8 operating rooms and is supported around the clock by anesthesia, a house supervisor, and a dedicated surgical assistant lead. The unit maintains a robust support structure including a department supervisor, manager, and team lead without case assignment, ensuring travelers have the resources they need to succeed in a high-acuity surgical environment.
