Job description

Position Overview

The UCO Office of Information Technology is seeking a Sales Specialist for the Central Tech Store. The sales specialist is the essence of a customer's experience at the Central Tech Store. A successful candidate will have sound knowledge of technology, and at the same time possess the ability to translate technology-speak into everyday language. Inspires repeat visits and use of technology. Responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service according to Central Tech Store standards, generating sales, merchandising, and safeguarding store assets. This position reports to the Retail Manager of the Central Tech Store.

Hours per Week

  • 15-20 hours per week.
  • Flexible, Monday-Friday.

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Typical duties may include but are not limited to typing, filing, answering telephones, customer service, scheduling appointments, and Microsoft Office experience.
  • Ensures each customer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment. Meets people and builds relationships with customers.
  • Maintains solid product knowledge and awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Understands customers’ needs and connects them with the right solution.
  • Develops complete solutions based on customer’s (especially UCO students, faculty and staff) needs.
  • Generates excitement about present and future products.
  • Assists in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance, and housekeeping.
  • Assists in processing and replenishing merchandise and monitoring floor stock.
  • Aids customers in locating merchandise.
  • Communicates customer requests to management.
  • Translates “techno-speak” into layman’s terms.
  • Assists in completing price changes.
  • Participates in year-end inventory and cycle counts.
  • Assists in ringing up sales at registers and/or bagging merchandise.
  • Participates in and passes retail sales and product training and reviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Must possess excellent customer service and oral/written communication skills. Must be self-motivated and energetic. Must have a desire and ability to work as part of a team. An outgoing personality that exemplifies a positive brand for the store and provides an excellent retail experience. Social skills that allow for comfortable and professional communication with customers and peers. Positive attitude that creates excellent customer service and great teamwork among peers.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Retail sales experience preferred. Tech savvy. Customer focused.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Basic knowledge of Central Tech Store tasks procedures. Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job. Ability to take direction from leadership team to allow store to operate accordingly. Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation. Ability to grasp new concepts quickly, multi-task and work under pressure. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Flexibility to meet change head-on.
