Job description

Our organization in Detroit, Michigan is on the lookout for a Board Certified Infectious Diseases physician to take on the role of Medical Director for Infectious Disease Research. This position leads a highly regarded division known for its excellence in clinical care, education, and scientific advancements. As an academic leader, you will have the chance to influence the division's research direction, manage clinical trials and translational studies, encourage interdisciplinary collaborations, mentor faculty and trainees, and oversee grant development for NIH, CDC, and industry-funded projects. The role includes dedicated research time, access to a fully funded 3,400 sq. ft. laboratory, and integration with our extensive clinical and academic resources, which encompass 13 hospitals, advanced ID fellowships, and a history of over 100 clinical trials. Ideal candidates will have a proven record of academic achievements, experience with funded research, and eligibility for a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, along with a dedication to enhancing programs in HIV, transplant ID, antimicrobial resistance, healthcare epidemiology, and global health.

Position Summary

The selected physician will deliver exceptional clinical care, promote research within the Infectious Diseases Division, and actively engage in teaching within our academic programs. The Medical Director of Infectious Disease Research will establish the strategic vision and provide leadership for all research endeavors within the division. Responsibilities include managing ongoing studies, encouraging innovative research initiatives, and supporting grant-funded projects across both translational and clinical fields.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and enhance the division's research strategy
  • Oversee clinical trials and translational research efforts
  • Encourage interdisciplinary collaborations with departments and external institutions to strengthen research partnerships
  • Mentor and support faculty, fellows, and research staff, fostering career development and scholarly excellence
  • Guide grant development and management, including strategy formulation, submission, and post-award oversight
  • Integrate research with clinical and educational objectives
  • Contribute to clinical care within the Infectious Diseases Division
Qualifications
  • Board Certification in Infectious Diseases
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Infectious Diseases
  • Demonstrated academic productivity, including peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience in leading or contributing to grant-funded research initiatives
  • Proven leadership abilities in academic or research settings
  • Eligibility for faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level
