Job description

JOB TITLE:Category Management Analyst

REQUISITION:CFO006U

DEPARTMENT:Supply Chain Center of Excellence - Kansas City Headquarters or Topeka General Office

LOCATION:Kansas City, MO or Topeka, KS

PAY RANGE:  

Category Mgmt Analyst II: $66,200 - $83,200  

Sr Category Mgmt Analyst: $84,500 - $112,600

Scheduled Work Hours:Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Job may require additional hours as required.  

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for fact-based research and in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis to support the development and execution of category management, strategic sourcing, and supplier relationship management initiatives.  Research would include gathering internal and external data comprised of historical spend; budget forecasts and operating plans; economic and market trends; and supplier performance.  This position is responsible for analyzing data to identify trends, creating and interpreting fact-based reports, and supporting the category management team in developing and executing strategies to achieve operational and financial excellence, mitigate risk and improve supplier performance.

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative information from multiple internal and external sources to perform the following: (20%)

o Prepare cost/benefit assessments

o Model historical and emerging trends to predict future conditions

o Create reports with both conceptual analysis and quantitative findings to recommend opportunities for enhanced value

o Identify and utilize new sources of information to gain insight and develop innovative solutions

o Develop supplier performance metrics and scorecards

Evaluate, qualify and select suppliers for sourcing activities (10%)

Actively participate in the development of long term strategic category plans. (15%)

Provide support in the execution of category improvement strategies, strategic sourcing activities, supplier evaluations and performance reviews (30%)

Partner with internal stakeholders to obtain and analyze supplier contract compliance information (10%)

Research and assist in the resolution of issues relating to invoices, rebates, discounts, pricing, and other contractual issues. (5%)

Develop and implement models to quantify and report value realized through category improvement initiatives (10%) 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field

Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Supply Chain operations, finance or other business operations 

Demonstrated relevant experience in:

o developing recommendations that demonstrate ability to translate detailed information into succinct findings and action plans which are supported by in-depth insights including longer-term implications of alternatives;

o conducting complex analysis and recommending strategies or policies to drive continuous improvement  

o supporting a center-led Supply Chain organizational model with a focus on category management, strategic sourcing and/or supplier relationship management

Utility or construction industry experience strongly preferred

Advanced financial, analytical and system skills

Expert in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills with additional proficiencies in the use of other Microsoft Office tools including Access, Project and Visio.  

In depth knowledge of PeopleSoft or other Supply Chain Management/ERP software and related query/reporting tools is also preferred.

Advanced research, analytical and problem solving skills, including but not limited to quantitative (financial and non-financial) and qualitative analysis of internal and external data to support the development and execution of business improvement strategies.

Strong communication skills (oral and written) with ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.

Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organization skills with strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse, cross-functional teams to understand requirements and reconcile differences in a productive manner.  Actively solicits differing opinions to ensure understanding of complex issues, and acts in a manner that builds and maintains trust.

Solid judgment with ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing circumstances.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and provide timely execution of multiple, concurrent highly complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Solid understanding of Supply Chain objectives, general business operations; knowledge of the utilities industry highly beneficial.

Strong knowledge of technologies and systems and their role in performance and process improvement
