About the Role:

The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the team, responsible for ensuring that operating rooms are well-prepared, procedures run smoothly, and patients receive safe and effective care. This role involves setting up surgical equipment, assisting surgeons during procedures and maintaining a sterile environment to minimize the risk of infections.

Work Schedule:

This is a full time position requiring 40 hours per week. The role is onsite with standard working days running Monday-Thursday. We believe in maintaining a healthy work-life balance while ensuring business needs are met.

Responsibilities:

Surgical Services:

  • Set up and maintain a sterile field in the OR.
  • Select and transport required operative setup to rooms for specific cases.
  • Set up surgical trays and sterilize prior to procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation and aftercare of equipment and supplies.
  • Test operational efficiency of equipment before and after cases.
  • Assist the surgeon throughout the case.
  • Assist the surgeon with wound closure if requested.
  • Prepare room and pull supplies the day before the case.
  • Check all surgical instruments for defects.
  • Set up sharpening of instruments.
  • Perform other tasks in the OR as assigned by anesthesiologists or doctor in charge

Clerical:

  • Monitor OR inventory of equipment and supplies, restock, and report deficiencies.
  • Assist in restocking rooms according to established standards.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain standard logs.
  • Attend staff meetings and educational seminars as requested.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Sharps and sponge counts with the Circulating Nurse; report deficiencies.
  • Dispose of medical waste and sharps according to protocol.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement studies.
  • Participate in required annual OSHA education, bloodborne pathogen training, and MH Code Blue drills.
  • Familiarize yourself with the crash cart, its contents, and the use of the AED.

Environmental / Room Readiness:

  • Clean rooms between surgical procedures and at the end of the surgery schedule.
Qualifications:
  • Surgical Tech experience - 2 years
  • Education: HS Diploma
  • Ability to plan ahead of surgeons' needs.
  • Graduated from an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and aseptic techniques.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
