Career Development Representative information

What is a career development representative?

Career Development Representatives (CDRs) are professionals who assist individuals in planning and advancing their careers. They work with clients to assess skills, explore career options, set professional goals, and connect them with relevant resources or opportunities. CDRs often provide guidance on resume building, job searching, networking, and interview preparation. They may work in educational institutions, employment agencies, or corporate settings to help clients achieve their career objectives.

How does a career development representative typically collaborate with other departments to support clients' career goals?

As a Career Development Representative, collaboration with departments such as Human Resources, Training, and Academic Advising is essential to provide comprehensive support for clients. You will often work closely with these teams to understand available resources, coordinate workshops, share job placement opportunities, and ensure clients receive tailored guidance. This cross-functional teamwork helps create a well-rounded experience for clients and enhances your effectiveness in guiding them towards their career objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a career development representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Career Development Representative, you need strong communication, interpersonal, and consultative skills, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, career assessment tools, and applicant tracking systems is important for managing candidate information and outreach. Active listening, empathy, and the ability to motivate others are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are essential for building trust, effectively guiding clients or candidates, and achieving successful placement or development outcomes.

Job description

Business Development Representative – Entry-Level Sales

Buckhead, Atlanta | Full-Time | Hiring Now + Upcoming Graduates Welcome

Launch Your Career in Sales at 20North

If you're competitive, driven, and looking for a career—not just a job—20North is the place to start.

20North is one of the fastest-growing digital marketing agencies in the country, headquartered in Buckhead, Atlanta. In the past three years, we've grown our business by 1,000% and have been recognized nationally and locally, including being named an Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Company 4 years in a row and an Atlanta Best Place to Work 5 years in a row.

We work with mid-market and enterprise brands to help them grow through digital marketing—and we're growing our sales team along with them.

More Than an Entry-Level Job

This isn't a role where you'll be stuck doing the same thing every day with no clear next step.

As a Business Development Representative, you'll learn the fundamentals of professional sales, work directly with experienced sales leaders, and develop the skills needed to build a long-term career in sales.

You'll get:

  • Hands-on sales training and ongoing coaching
  • Direct mentorship from experienced sales leaders
  • Exposure to the full sales process
  • Opportunities to attend trade shows, events, and market acquisition trips
  • A competitive compensation structure with uncapped earning potential
  • A clear path for advancement as you prove yourself

Our goal is to develop great salespeople and promote from within.

Built for Competitive People

This role is a great fit for former athletes, student-athletes, and naturally competitive people who enjoy setting goals and pushing themselves to get better.

If you're used to:

  • Taking coaching and applying feedback
  • Being held accountable
  • Competing against a goal
  • Working as part of a team
  • Bouncing back when things don't go your way
  • Putting in the work to get better

—you already have many of the qualities that make great salespeople.

And you don't need years of sales experience to get started. We'll teach you the sales skills. We’re looking for the mindset.

What You'll Do

  • Represent 20North at trade shows, company events, and market acquisition trips
  • Prospect and connect with business owners through outbound outreach
  • Learn how to identify business challenges and uncover opportunities
  • Educate prospects on 20North's digital marketing services
  • Qualify prospects and build a strong sales pipeline
  • Work toward monthly and annual performance goals
  • Collaborate with the sales team to generate new business and drive revenue

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong communication skills
  • Competitive, positive, and coachable mindset
  • High level of motivation and accountability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to grow quickly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to start immediately

Sales experience is a plus, but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Average first-year BDR compensation: ~$70,000
  • Competitive, uncapped commission structure
  • Health insurance eligibility after 60 days
  • Paid vacation and sick time
  • Company-provided MacBook
  • Ongoing sales training and mentorship
  • Clear advancement opportunities within a high-growth company

Ready to Start Your Sales Career?

If you're competitive, coachable, and ready to work hard, we'll give you the training, tools, and opportunity to build a career in sales.
