Sonny Merryman Inc is seeking a Body Shop Technician in the Chesapeake VA area!

Earn $26 to $30 per hour

High school diploma or equivalent.

At Least 3 Years of Experience as a Body Shop Technician

Working knowledge of body repair techniques (dents, dings, creases, scratches)



​The Body Shop Technician plays a critical role in ensuring vehicle meet quality standards before delivery. This position involves diagnosing damage, detailed inspections of various vehicle types, identifying and correcting paint and body defects, verifying operational components, installing customer-specified equipment and performing structural repairs, and refinishing surfaces to meet industry standards and customer expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • ​Follow the Body Shop PDI checklist tailored to each vehicle type.
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of exterior panels for dents, dings, creases, and paint flaws.
  • Verify correct placement of reflective tape and decals.
  • ​Inspect windshields and windows for chips or cracks.
  • ​Identify potential water leaks, missing seam caulking, or gaskets.
  • Test functionality of doors, windows, emergency exits, and hood mechanisms.
  • Inspect interior components including seat covers, flooring, and paneling for damage.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of body repair techniques (dents, dings, creases, scratches)
  • Paint application experience, including spot repair and blending
  • Ability to correct panel misalignment, perform hood adjustments, and fix latch malfunctions
  • Experience with component replacement (seat backs, mirrors, seals, gaskets, caulking)
  • Ability to install customer-specified equipment (fareboxes, seat belts, decals, tape packages)
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools and body shop equipment
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry for repair orders and work reports
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team
  • Flexibility to shift tasks throughout the day, including work outside normal duties


Preferred Qualifications

  • I-CAR certification or equivalent collision repair training
  • Experience with heavy-duty, commercial, or transit vehicles
  • Experience with decal, reflective tape, and vinyl application
  • Glass and seal work, including water leak diagnosis and correction
  • Familiarity with warranty documentation, parts billing, and parts tracking
  • Experience working in a 5S or similarly organized shop environment
