Shop Mechanic โ€“ Maintain Heavy Fleet for Chicagoโ€™s Premier Infrastructure Builder

Job Overview:

The Opportunity: You will play a vital role in keeping Chicago moving by ensuring our diverse fleet of construction equipment is mission-ready. Working for a company with 112 years of history, you will have the autonomy to diagnose and repair complex systems that build the cityโ€™s roads. This is an ideal role for a technician who takes pride in high-stakes mechanical work and enjoys the variety of maintaining both small and large-scale heavy machinery.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Execute comprehensive repairs on small and large trucks to ensure safe and reliable fleet operations.

  • Diagnose and overhaul complex hydraulic systems to maintain the power and precision of our construction equipment.

  • Interpret intricate wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems across various machinery.

  • Perform detailed inspections and maintenance on air systems to prevent equipment downtime on job sites.

  • Utilize service and parts manuals to source components and implement manufacturer-spec repair solutions.

  • Collaborate with the Logistics and Operations team to prioritize equipment repairs based on project schedules.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Extensive experience repairing small and large trucks within a commercial or construction environment.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, and air systems for construction equipment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting technical service and parts manuals.

  • Competency in navigating and applying complex electrical wiring diagrams.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to maintaining a safe, organized shop environment.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Completion of a Trade Program or Technical Certification from a recognized mechanic program.

  • 5 years of professional experience as a mechanic specifically within the heavy construction or civil industry.

  • Deep interest in evolving hydraulic technology and advanced diagnostic equipment.
