Working Concrete Foreman / Finisherย โ€“ Lead High-Impact Infrastructure Projects Across Chicago

Job Overview:

  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time.

The Opportunity: Capitol Cement Company is seeking an experienced Working Concrete Foreman / Finisherย to lead concrete crews on public works and infrastructure projects in the Chicago area. This role is responsible for coordinating daily field operations, reading plans, setting line and grade, managing crew productivity, and helping ensure quality concrete installation from layout through finishing.

The ideal candidate has strong field leadership experience in concrete construction and can work effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment. This is a hands-on foreman role for someone who understands public works concrete, can lead by example, and can keep crews organized, productive, and working safely.

Union / Employment Note:

Current membership in Cement Masons Local 502 or Laborers Local 76 is preferred, but not required to apply. Qualified candidates must be willing and able to join the appropriate union upon hire, if needed.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Lead daily field operations for concrete crews on public works and infrastructure projects

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, engineering plans, and layout requirements

  • Set line, grade, and elevations for curbs, sidewalks, walls, and related concrete work

  • Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to keep work moving efficiently

  • Supervise concrete delivery, placement, and finishing to meet quality standards

  • Monitor crew performance, productivity, and jobsite organization throughout the day

  • Communicate with project stakeholders, including supervisors, inspectors, and engineers, as needed

  • Maintain safe work practices and ensure crews follow project and company standards

  • Identify field issues early and help resolve layout, elevation, or production challenges

  • Work with tools when needed and lead by example in the field

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in concrete construction, including field leadership experience

  • Strong ability to read blueprints and interpret construction drawings

  • Experience setting line, grade, and elevations for concrete work

  • Proven ability to lead crews and manage daily field production

  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and strong jobsite follow-through

  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English

  • Willingness to join the appropriate union upon hire, if needed

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current membership in Cement Masons Local 502 or Laborers Local 76

  • Experience on City of Chicago, State of Illinois, or other public works projects

  • Experience with curb, gutter, sidewalk, wall, and roadway concrete work

  • Familiarity with transit levels, layout tools, and elevation control

  • Spanish-speaking ability is a plus

  • Trade school, union training, or related technical training is a plus
