What is a Financial Analyst- Capital Management?

Financial Analysts work within the Finance and Accounting group and support the development of the annual business plans and budgets, and 5-year forecast. Financial Analysts analyze financial information monthly, perform analyses that support internal customer needs, provide insight to the executive team regarding the company's financial performance, and perform ad hoc activities as needed. Financial Analysts cross-train and collaborate with the team and others within and outside of the Finance and Accounting group.

What does a Financial Analyst- Capital Management do?

  • Assists in the preparation of the financial and/or cash annual budget, 5-year financial forecast, and other forecasts and financial analyses as needed

  • Some financial analysts prepare monthly and annual financial and/or cash projections and assist with maintenance of corporate financial models, including daily cash management and day-to-day liaison with banks, liquidity analyses, cash forecasting and budgeting, and administering corporate investment and credit policy according to the established guidelines and procedures.

  • Some financial analysts focus on corporate capital planning and operating costs, including annual budgeting and forecasting, monthly projections, and analytical support for internal customers

  • Translates business plans and forecasts into financial plans and projections to ensure the organization achieves its financial and operational targets and recommends appropriate corrective action as needed

  • Develops business cases for capital investments, new business initiatives and financing plans

  • Compiles and analyzes data in the preparation of reports and filings for regulatory agencies and other internal and external constituencies

  • Drives and implements new process changes to foster continuous improvement

  • Assists with special projects and other tasks as needed

  • Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts

What does it take to be Financial Analyst- Capital Management?

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field of study

  • Strong analytical, organizational, quantitative, and strategic thinking skills

  • Strong computer skills including a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Excel) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment

  • Self-motivated and driven to analyze, investigate and learn

  • Ability to self-start and work independently or as part of a team

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:

  • Professional experience in financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and financial planning.

  • General knowledge of accounting and utility industry

  • Experience with financial planning systems (e.g. Tagetik, PowerPlant) and/or forecasting models

  • MBA or Master's degree in a related field of study
