Job description

The Director, Capital Energy and Strategywill lead, plan, coordinate and manage the procurement of utilities for QTS. This includes leadership responsibility for energy/water/waste contracting, risk management, predevelopment, supplier management, sales training, and customer communications related to energy contracting processes. Expected travel is 20%-30% to attend conferences, internal meetings etc. You will work closely with the development team on infrastructure improvements (substations, transmission and distribution feeders, etc.) for new sites in the US and Europe. You will use your experience to help QTS meet its commitment to procure 100% of its energy from renewable sources by 2025, and you will sit on the Sustainability leadership team to assist with energy related goals and commitments. You will manage green building certifications, and interface regularly with utility related dashboards to assist in operational financial planning.
RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned

• Energy Contract alignment
• Interface with energy suppliers
• Corporate and site wide renewable energy balance
• Executive portfolio review
• Energy Efficiency Project coordination
• Site utility infrastructure development
• Interface with customer base
• Provide training to sales executives
Required fundamental knowledge to include:
• Legislation, Regulation and Energy Outlook for Energy Procurement
• The Structure of the Electric Industry
• Purchasing Electricity in Deregulated and Regulated markets
• Metering, Load Profiles & Real Time Pricing
• Energy Trading and Risk Management
• Fundamentals of Gas and Electric Market
• Energy Cost Avoidance Strategies
• The basics of medium and high voltage Electrical infrastructure
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelors Degree in science, engineering, architecture, business, law, finance, or related field or related discipline; or equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree
• Ten or more years' of related professional experience
• Five or more years' experience leading company-wide energy contracting initiatives
• Demonstrated experience working directly with senior executives and collaborating effectively across all levels of the organization
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Certified Energy Manager (CEM®)
• Professional Engineer (PE) OR Registered Architect (RA)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Demonstrated leadership experience and a proven ability to drive results through others
• Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel
• Strategic thinker with advanced verbal/written communications and presentation skills, the ability to articulate and communicate complex energy concepts into simple terms clearly and succinctly, as well as the ability to educate, persuade and inspire people into action.
• Exceptional project management and cross-functional leadership skills, process focused and keen ability to forester collaboration, influence and build trust in a highly matrixed organization.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask and deliver high-quality work in tight timeframes.
• Self-starter with a track record of demonstrated ability and willingness to learn, motivation and dedication to excellence.
• Entrepreneurial spirit, comfort with ambiguity, good judgement and diplomacy.
• A consummate team player with impeccable ethics and integrity.
