Job description


Job Purpose

The Production Line Lead provides hands-on leadership to Production Workers and supports daily production, sanitation, quality, and safety activities on assigned lines. This role ensures scheduled orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with GMPs, Food Safety Policy, and CandyCo operational standards. The Line Lead coordinates workflow, provides training, and maintains a safe, clean, organized environment across the line.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Direction

  • Direct and coordinate the daily work of Production Workers on assigned lines.
  • Provide clear direction on tasks such as product loading, packing, pallet stacking, cleaning, and sanitation steps.
  • Rotate Production Workers between stations and lines as needed, including break/lunch coverage.
  • Model CandyCo’s safety, GMP, and Food Safety culture in all interactions.
  • Proactively coach employees to improve quality, efficiency, and work habits.
  • Escalate performance or behavior concerns to Supervisor when needed.

Production Operations

  • Ensure lines are set up correctly, staffed appropriately, and running per schedule.
  • Verify Production Workers are inspecting product correctly and performing assigned tasks.
  • Monitor line speeds, material usage, and changeovers to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records, including production counts, scrap, and run notes.
  • Identify and resolve minor production issues; escalate equipment concerns to Maintenance.
  • Ensure proper labeling, lot codes, traceability, and documentation compliance.

Sanitation & Cleaning Oversight

  • Lead and verify cleaning activities including sweeping, mopping, wiping, and equipment-area cleaning.
  • Oversee scheduled sanitation (including Level 3–4 cleans requiring up to 8 hours).
  • Train Production Workers on correct sanitation procedures, PPE, and chemical-handling expectations.
  • Conduct pre-op and post-op checks for cleanliness, safety, and readiness.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all employees wear correct PPE at all times (hairnet, gloves, non-slip shoes, etc.).
  • Maintain a hazard-free work area; remove debris and address spills immediately.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout, safety guards, and restricted areas as required.
  • Lead by example with 100% adherence to GMPs and Food Safety protocols.

Communication & Coordination

  • Communicate shift expectations, priorities, and job rotations to Production Workers.
  • Participate in daily shift huddles and pass-down meetings.
  • Collaborate with QA, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Supervisors as operational needs arise.
  • Report material shortages, deviations, or line issues promptly.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-year experience as a Lead, Machine Operator, or higher-level production role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organization skills.
  • Ability to train, coach, and motivate hourly employees.
  • Excellent understanding of product specs, quality standards, and GMPs.
  • Ability to prioritize and maintain sense of urgency on scheduled orders.
  • The role requires the ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Bilingual Preferred (Spanish)
  • Experience with SAP, ROSS, PLEX, or similar ERP/IMS systems is a plus (or ability to learn quickly).

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work any shift as scheduled.
  • Standing/walking for long periods; repetitive motion required.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Non-slip safety footwear required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in production area conditions.
  • All required PPE must be worn at all times.
  • Ability to lead by example with GMP-ready appearance and hygiene.

Direct Reports

  • This position has no formal direct reports but leads 5–10 Production Workers daily.
