Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator

Description

The screening coordinator oversees daily operations and workflow for the Lung Screening Program. Supports all efforts related to guiding patients through the screening process. The Program Coordinator works with referring physician offices and clinics to manage follow-up imaging tests. The Program Coordinator manages all aspects of the Lung database including data entry, statistical reporting, and enhancements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis. Any other duties as needed to drive to the vision fulfill the mission and abide by the values of the organization.

  • Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
  • Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
Supervisory Responsibilities

Reports to: Pulmonary Practice Manager Supervises: N/A

Responsibilities
  • The Program Coordinator directs patients through the screening, enrollment and appointment process.
  • Supports all efforts related to guiding patients and families through the screening process.
  • Schedules appointments and diagnostic studies and tracks status of patients in database.
  • Performs program Quality assessment checks, audits, and reviews.
  • Develops and drives initiatives to eliminate barriers to the lung cancer screening program.
  • Establishes processes and standards that ensure consistent patient scheduling including follow up diagnostic imaging exams.
  • Communicates with referring physicians regarding patient appropriateness for program and coordinates information with referral services.
  • Responsible for developing processes for order compliance.
  • Performs Patient Follow up Management for patients already screened, uses database to ensure appropriate follow up appointments are scheduled and kept as recommended.
  • Distributes patient letters, provides follow-up and confirmation calls.
  • Responsible for Database Management - manage all aspects of the Lung Screening database including inputting patient screening data, patient letters, data entry input of all patient management activities, statistical reporting.
  • Works closely with Radiology/ IT with database design, enhancement and maintenance. Is responsible for reporting database maintenance issues to Radiology/ IT for resolution.
  • Provide updates on program activity, statistics and recommendations for program enhancements.
  • Serves as an active member of the Lung Conference working group.
  • Coordinates weekly with patient navigator to review program status.
  • Coordinates with Patient Financial Services and the Finance Department as needed.
  • Tracks all financial impact of program
  • Prepares analytical data as requested.
  • Recommends and implements program scheduling improvements.

Education

Required: High School or better in General Studies. Preferred: Associates or better in Nursing.

Experience

Required: 3 years: progressive relevant experience in a healthcare environment

Licenses & Certifications

Required: Licensed Practical Nurse
